Used S65 values

I prefer the last generation S Class body style over the new one and I am interested in a 2006 S65. It appears as though fuel costs are depressing the sales of anything packing a V12 engine. The retail prices today for a low mileage 2006 S65 seem to be in the mid $70's, but I am speculating that before the end of this summer, they will be at least $10K less. What say the rest of you?

Also, does anyone know of a designo edition 2006 S65 that exists anywhere in the USA?

My friend just purchased an 06 S65 with 17,000 miles for $58,000. He got it from the auctions. Black on Black loaded.

My next car from what I'm thinking. I've had an E46 M3, B6 S4, G55, Lotus Elise, W211 E55 (miss it), E60 M5 and now I'm enjoying the RS4 and Z06 the most of all of them... But I am really just leaning more and more towards an 06 or 07 S65. Just so badass.

My friend who is a broker purchased an 07 S65 for 110K and a silver one for 116K last week...

The one for 110K was Blue... Ugly color.. I think that's why it was cheap.

Yep - depending on the market (and when I'm ready to make a switch), my next car will either be a 2006 or 2007 S65. Right now, you can't get a better bang for the buck...

I might switch the M5 for a 2007 S65 in about 18 months. What do you guys think? Will the 2007 S65 be in the same price-range as the 06 S65 is today (70s) or will it still be more by than?

There's a few 220 65s to be had for the mid 60s if you look, but with oil dropping and gas prices possibly dropping (we can only hope) maybe it won't help so much. But still the drop is insane! 58k? wow. I too prefer the old looks, and I just can't seem to get past that column shifter. 221 is still awesome though. And yes, an S65 might be the most badass car in the world, esp. black on black.

Yeah, they should be in the 70s in 18 months. But in 18 months the 2010 model will be out with an anticipated major facelift, your 2007 S65s will be out of warranty or close, and they'll have 40k+ miles.

I wouldn't want to own a 65 engine outside of warranty. Or any M-B for that matter.

If you can pay $70k+ for a car, why not get a new S550? They're going for 20% off MSRP right?

After the purchase of the 3 cars I currently own, I said to myself that I would never be that stupid again and virtually flush my money down the toilet - considering the residuals of the cars right now and looking at the current prices.

I always thought I could extend the original MB warranty as long as it hasn't expired (withink 50k miles/4 years)? I thought I could get a CPOed S65 from a MB dealer and extend the warranty to 100K miles and up to 3 years (1 year CPO plus 2 years additional purchase)? If so, I would have to find a 'younger' MY07 that still falls into that window or an 'older' MY08 - by the time the facelifted model launched, it is quite possible that the price of an 08 is not much higher than the one of an 07.

I agree that owning a S65 - or any AMG - without warranty comes close to suicide..

Certainly, a new S550 would be close to that pricerange, but do you think an S550 can compete with that beast when it comes to performance AND appearance?

And even if the extension of the original warranty is not an option, I would buy a nice pre-owned S63 (with warranty) instead of a new S550. I'm tired of taking the depreciation-hit for others.

given the prices being discussed on the S65's, i'm curious what everyone's opinion is on SL65's - specifically, a 2006 SL65 silver/blk w/ 34k miles. most of these are pretty well cared for, so it's a matter of probably what they're going for at auction...and also the regional supply and demand for the sale. the one i saw online today was asking $84k, but i'm thinking $70-75k...especially since 2009 SLs are re-engineered for better handling and updated face?

$70K would be a very good deal. Based on Autotrader.com, I would say that the SL65s are still quite expensive - at least a bit more than the S. It also makes a difference if the car is a CPO or not. There is a 2005 SL65, black on black, CPO, offered at $85K.

I'd suggest you play around at Autotrader.com - that should give you an idea of the price tendency - it doesn't mean that the prices you're seeing are carved in stone (and auction prices are always MUCH lower than the one at a dealership).

I have the feeling that the 65s - although they are a great deal - aren't selling to well right now. Some cars have been listed for weeks now - and I don't think the reason for that are the gas-prices...

Dino (AMG) isn't that the older style V12 that had the issue with coil packs or is that only the SL? I forget it's 3am

06' S65's and 05-06 CL65's are an absolute STEAL right now.. You can buy a decent, lower mile CL65 for in the upper $50's- low $60's right now.. This car listed for $180k 2-3 years ago..

E55 then E63, now back to an E55
I will jump in here and mention that I decided my next car will be a slightly used 2005 SL 65, or -possibly- a 2006 S65.......

I like to switch cars often, and buy used to save a bit on depreciation-
After toying w/ idea of 997 Turbo (love the 6speeds but they hold value fairly well and a bit out of my price range - don't want 996 Turbo)

Also the idea of Bentley GT (too expensive)

Plus I couldnt decide between convertible (nice function) or hardtop (coupe has better lines and looks better w top up).......

I'll get the best of both words - retractable roof !
That 65 AMG motor is amazing and I love the way it drives so luckily I don't have a hard decision to make anymore !

The Bentley GT's will be dropping like rocks soon

There are more then 500 GT'S for sale right around the country and they are getting crap bids on ebay .....in the last month or so they have been losing ground .....large supply and a common body style ....and VW made thousands of these cars....Expect to see these cars fetching $60-70k real soon....they have no warranties on most of them 2004-2005 and you cannot get an aftermarket one....

as for the S65 and CL65 well CL65's are selling from the mid $40's at the auction to low $50's.... they lost value because of the outdated body style and the fact that there are only a handful of people out there who know what it is and really want that car.....there are over 50 for sale in the country right now...considering they only made about 500 for 2 years that is a big number for sale..S65's are selling at auction in the high $40's to mid $50's...a silver one just sold with 17k miles for $52k the other day at auction....
the body style is outdated and you can get a AMG body s550 for $65k ....and not too many people care about the 600hp in a old body style.....only a few do...fact is something is only worth what someone will pay for it.....and not too many 65 fans out there

I agree, the bentley GT was the car of choice for many real estate/mortage guys who made it big over the last 5 years... We all know how that story ended... Many GT's were repo'd... and ended up on the wholesale market..

Not sure guys who have cars repo'd "made" anything....most prob struggle w/basic reading/counting/thinking....

Agree, VW-Bent are a POS from any common-sense engineering standpoint...

Would observe that '07-'08 S65 are awfully popular in SiliconValley....suspect 90% are 2yr-leased...would suggest many will be returned to relevant SV dealers in next few mths for a new, '09 iteration....
