NEED NEW WINDSHIELD FOR MY S65

Hi Guys, I have nowhere else to turn to. A rock smashed into my windshield 2 days ago and I need to repair it ASAP. My insurance lapsed and they won't cover it. I own a 2007 Iradium Silver S65 AMG and it's my pride and joy. However, times are hard and the dealership wants to charge an arm and leg for a replacement windshield. They quoted me $1,100 for a new one + installation. Any suggestions? Also, a buddy told me that the S550's windshield is cheaper and would most likely fit. Any suggestions at all would be greatful.

E55 then E63, now back to an E55
I would do a local large auto glass supplier. I would guess an S550 windshield should fit - it's the same car....... maybe in the 500-600 dollar range? Dealerships are always a ripoff. I remember reading somewhere on here about one brand of glass to use and one NOT to use - someone else will probably dig it up. Good luck......

W220 S65 AMG
How can there be a price difference between the S65 and the S550 windshield? It's the same exact thing.

$800 to $1100 sounds about right with parts and labor.

Give Safelite a call for a quote: http://www.safelite.com/

I've had Safelite replace the windshield on my old car and on my ML350 through insurance and both times they did a perfect job and were nice, clean and courteous.

You drive an S65 and can't afford $1,100 for a windshield?

I had my S550 windshield replaced for a stone chip. Windshield was aroud $1100 & with install it was about $1500-$1600

I think that is a reasonable price for a windshield that is IR reflecting and has cut outs for night vision. Especially for a 100K car in my case or close to 200K in yours.

A more fitting question should be how you allow insurance to lapse. That is not smart when you own that caliber of an automobile, not to mention uncharacteristic.

Well... I'm happy to report, my ***** of an ex-wife finally paid the insurance premium since she was responsible for the insurance of the cars but somehow forgot to pay for 2 months.

Now... to username: Ferri and Boxer2Blower with their rude comments on this post, if you should know I lost big as a real estate developer and so things had been tight lately. Nevertheless, my car (my baby) is fixed and once more I feel proud to park it next to my 06 Aston Matin DB9. Which, I have the pink slip for by the way (own free and clear).

Cheers

Listen Bro...IMHO Nobody on this site wants to hear about your real estate problems, your ex-wife, & your DB9 financial status...Also, "Ferri & Boxer2Blower" comments weren't meant to be rude either.

Thumbs up

Hey iluvmy65amg, i see on ur profile you own a 05 SLR. What's your thoughts on ownership of this vehicle. Truthfully, I am seriously considering that car as well as the LP 640 as a future fun car. Wat's ur take?

I love the SLR! I have actually driven the LP640 as well (Great car), but I got the SLR because IMO I liked how I could drive it and not have to worry about shifting in traffic all the time b/c out in L.A. it could be a strain every now and then. Also, It just felt more comfortable to be in on a long drive. Most of all, The power in the SLR is unbelievable! A few people I know told me to do RENNtech or some other after tuner but I think its powerful enough. I have never had a problem and I always bring it in for any scheduled services and it doesn't have to sit at the dealer for weeks as well..Either way, you wont go wrong! Both cars are truly great cars and definitely turn some heads!

Hi, iluvmy65amg. I've been looking for a SLR for a while too now. I have two questions for you regarding the ownership. How much do you on average a year for the SLR? includes(insurance, matinence, etc.). And two, are the seats comfortable for long distance trips? I've heard theat they are comfortable at first but they get uncomfortable after a while, I'm not sure if this is true though.

Cheers,

S. Sako

Financially, its not that bad for me..the car is covered under MB warranty so I really don't spend that much out of pocket for it maintenance wise. (But, I will definitely look into a MB extended warranty.) You know, for me the seats have been pretty comfortable..i'll occasionally take the car on long trips for the weekend or whatever and never complain about the seats. But, I guess it just depends on the person sitting in them!

The seats came in different sizes, most I see are XL. That is something to keep in mind, if someone ordered the car with a slim/tight seat you might not fit.

Hey here on the east coast, they had an AMG auction at a Boca Raton car show. Most cars were going below sticker price. I saw a 08 SLR convertible sold to some guy for $419,000. I thought that was a bit cheap considering they were in the $500,000 territory last year. Anyway, the Renntech for SLR would run about $18,000 for everything, est. power is 722hp (OMG). They do it in Boynton Beach, FL

Oh thanks for the info, I definately have the SLR in my sights now. Just waiting for another price drop, I heard things will get alot worst next year, I'd hate to buy now and loose an automatic $30k.

you'll lose a lot more than that unfortunately....the price for an SLR in a year or so might be shocking.

I hope thats not the case..But, I have a feeling your right. I almost traded mine in on a 722 edition not too long ago, But I lost it at the last min. I don't think that the 722 editions will drop too much being how rare they are. I would consider upgrading to one before my car drops in value anymore. The only trouble is trying to locate one!!

I see it different: If you are that smart that you ended up in a S65, why should you be that dumb to take the first best offer? Think about it...
