Insurance quote for S65 AMG

So I just called to get a quote as I have toyed with the idea of selling my cars and getting an 06 S65 AMG. I currently have a 97 Viper GTS and an 05 Benz C230 and my 6 month premium is 1100. For the S65, just the S65 mind you, it would be 2300!! Haha, I was shocked. I guess having it as a daily driver is the difference. Didn't think it would be that much though haha

that is a pretty ridiculous rate if you are at least middle aged with a decent driving record.

I'm 26. Clean record I think, might be a ticket from a couple years ago for illegal turn. I was just shocked at the price difference compared to me already having a sports car with higher power to weight ratio I think. If I went this route, i'd probably look at another insurance carrier, USAA seems to be taking advantage lately. I never got the big insurance drop at 25 everyone seems to mention, even with a clean record.

They don't only judge on HP the more expensive Flagship Mercedes models are what dictates your policy quotes. Original sticker in window from my SL600 was $145k

Yeah, those are way off numbers -- To insure an S65 for me, it would be $22 more a month than my current E350.

check out nationwide insurnance, they are very competitive, when i was looking at my motorcycle it was 2500 for State Farm, and only 1100 for Nationwide, and especially right now insurance is hurting..good luck!!

You're kidding right? you pay basically $4k per 12 mo for just those (2) cars? How old are? early 20's any DUI's

I had a DUI that will be off my record in 3-4 months then my $2400 yearly quote will reduce considerably to $1600 this is FULL coverage w/$250 deductible....Try Mercury Ins...

USAA gets horrible for certain cars.

I'd switch provider.

all the posted rates in this thread are meaningless to other people unless you state HOW MUCH COVERAGE $$$ YOU GET.

for example if you pay $50/month for coverage on your E55, it dont mean shieBe. you have to also mention if you get $250,000 coverage of $1,000,000 coverage etc..

A Mercedes obviously!
Try this. When I was learning to drive in the UK my 17yr old friend had a 6yr old VW Golf, 1.6 litre engine, and for 'Third Party Fire & Theft' (so he's not covered personally if he causes an accident) it was almost $3000/year.

My learner car was a 1.4 litre and was $1100/yr for the same 3rd party coverage. To go fully comprehensive was so expensive it wasn't worth it. I dread to think how much my father paid for me to be insured to drive his W220 when I was 19yrs old.

RI cops suck they have nothing else to do but give tickets. I grew up there, I have lived in Miami Beach for 10 years now, the cops down here have plenty to keep them busy. Needless to say my record has been clean ever since, although I did sell my bike before I moved here.

Sorry fellas. I'm on so many car forums I forgot about this thread. I might have to shop around. What really suprised me was that I had done a quote for an E55, which isn't as powerful as the S65 surely, but it was only $100 more every 6 months than the C230. I'm going to hold off on doing any car buying for a little though with the current market because I will get raped on selling or trading my cars. Thanks for the feedback though.

The 65 cost almost 2.5x the 55 when new, and might be rated as less reliable. Also, the ABC is much more expensive and complex and prone to failure (it seems) than the Airmatic in the 55, and the 65 is overall more complicated. And of course it is much more powerful.

$13k seems cheap for 10 new/expensive cars. i'm paying AAA $4k/yr for 4 used cars worth $15-25k, w/ 2 drivers, no tix, no medical, but $500k/$1M.
i still think rip-off for 4 cars considering 2 drivers(SF area).
can anyone suggest better option?
