2006 S65 - Oil, Oil Everywhere
I've got an S65 with about 30K miles on it. Bought it used 18 months ago from a dealer so it's got remaining factory warranty and then a year on the CPO. Drove it to the airport yesterday morning to catch a 5:30am flight to NYC. Everything fine. Get out, smell something burning and see smoke coming out from under the hood. Pop the hood and there is oil all over the nice carbon fiber engine cover. Get back inside, check the electronic oil level, says it's a quart and a half low. Did not get the low oil warning message on the drive in.
Met the MB road side assistance tow truck at the airport last night, and they towed it to dealer. I could see oil underneath when they got it on the flat bed. Checked the filler cap, seems tight. No feedback from the dealer yet; waiting to see what's up. Since it was about 20 days from the "B Service" perhaps it decided it could not wait and spit up all over itself. Anybody hear of other S65's doing a self purge?

We have a winner . . . or at least pretty darn close. Near as they could tell it was leaking from the top of the oil filter. Replaced filter as part of the "b service" and everything seems to be good. Getting detailed today, will pick it up tomorrow afternoon.

This car is quick and fast, quiet, solid, smooth. Pulls strong, no turbo lag. Comes with lots of leather, lots of room, very comfortable. Exhaust note is great. Sound system inside is great, lots of gadgets. It's the first car I've ever had where I don't have to have the drivers seat all the way back. I can haul 4 people and enough luggage for a week in comfort, cruise at 80+ on the interstate all day long and average 20MPG. My biggest complaint is that the windows have a metalic tint that screen out much of the radar signals. There is small opening in the windshield where I position my V1, but it rarely registers anything other than a front signal - sort of defeating much of the value of the V1. I'm glad that AMG/MB did not trick up the outside, although I have a friend that has a clk black series and it is one great looking car on the outside.
The long term repair costs for this beast threaten to be scary, so my lease runs out about 3 months before the cpo warranty ends.
