2009 S600 Dyno Tune

Here are the graphs of the 2009 S600 that we had on the dyno today....what a beautiful car.

Not as impressive as the W220 and much harded to tune IMO. It's amazing what cold IC's can do!

Pink is hot run
Blue is stock
Green is ice / cool down for 30 minutes

Enjoy!

That's strange. At 490whp, it came up short 11whp compared to theRickers near-stock SL600... same engine, same everything no?

I believe Sean dynoed on a Dyno Jet to get his 500rwhp number. The 09+ 600's I think are running the old Maybach files which produced about 1.2bar stock.

Yes, it was a DynoJet-- big difference between DynoJet this one?

This is a dynodynamics, which reads lower than a dynojet. 4-7% lower if anything. The same dyno had a 2004 W220 S600 that Jerry tuned that did 390rwhp 505rwtq stock and 428.8rwhp tuned and a staggering 680rwtq which is bananas for a dyno dynamics, its just a dyno though so a better measure would mean the strip. I would expect 11.5 and a bit lower for it which should easily prove the powers it strapped down at the dyno.
I also noticed this car's hp powerband is not as flat as the W220s, I believe like Jerry said, the W221 isn't easy to tune.

Check out the other thread on the W220 S600 here:

Spot on Jay! I think that's exactly what the new 09's are using...

Harry, yes big differences in properly set Dynodynamics vs DynoJet

Look's like the TB is larger, possibly accounting for higher HP but lower TQ

I just checked and the TB part number was the same for 2004 S600 and 2009 S600.

The left tubro had different part numbers, and cost less than the turbo from 2004 model.

Everything else that I checked was the same.

There's either some kind of mistake somewhere or Mercedes is feeling really generous.. Checking EPC the H/E on an '09 S600 is A221-500-23-03

The frontal area of the W221 and W215 seem to be a bit larger, maybe why they were able to take advantage of a larger HE? I dont know just speculation until its actually measured....what we do know is that the 65 HE is larger and a definite fit in out cars...I cant imagine an 09 HE being larger then that and if it was it probably wouldnt fit.
