e55 vs. s55
I know they are totally different cars but how do they compare 0-60mph and 1/4 mile? I have been set on getting a e55 for months but haven't considered an s55....

0-60 times I have found very similar speeds....its the 1/4 mile of the supercharged s55 I am unsure of because I have read so many different writings that state different numbers. I have read 12.5 all the way to 13.2 Do you have any idea whats pretty accurate for the cars 1/4 mile times?

The 0-60 times should be around 4.5 to 4.9 seconds and 1/4 miles in the mid 12 second range in stock form. I would say the E would have a slight edge on twisty roads being more tossable, but as far as straight line perfromance the two cars should have similar performance.

I've owned both cars and can tell you the E55 pulled WAY harder than the S55 did. No comparison. I never ran the E at the track, but my S55 with about 25k miles ran 13.2's consistently. I have a decent amount of track experience so I think that was a pretty close number to what anyone could get out of that particular car. I tried several different setups, and all were pretty similar. Maybe it was low on power....but it is a heavy car! ![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
The first time I floored the E55 on a test drive I was amazed at how hard it pulled. It was almost scary fast (and I fly jets for a living!).
To compare the two, the E seemed like a smaller, more tossable beast that begged for fun, and the S was more of a laid-back cruiser with alot of power available if need be but with much more of a luxury and expensive feel than the E. At 6'7", I enjoyed the room of the S alot.

SVTAMG--I noticed you list under your username you drive a lightning? I've had 2 and loved them....guess we have similar taste! haha
One reason my E55 is gone is it just wouldn't cool off the interior. It blew cold air through those tiny vents, but the car was dark blue and had a pano roof. You would be dripping with sweat before things finally became reasonable. Even my wife's toyota was cool in 1/4 of the time (we do live in Miami btw).
I thought it was just me, but then I did a search and found tons of similar complaints about the a/c.
Also, the explosive power is fun for a while, but with the way it guzzled gas, after a while I didn't push it that much anyway.....I say go with the S!!

Don't forget to include the s600 in your choices. I did the same comparison as you are doing now and after driving all 3 I went the s600 hands down. I also considered my plans on tuning software or not after the purchase which had a big result in my choice.
With the reasonable prices of these cars these days and the extended warrantees out there a choice to purchase 1 of them is a no brainer.

That's a good real life summary from red00lght on the E55 vs. S55.
On the cooling issue, we had 2006 E350 and HVAC system was sub par, too noisey and took too long to cool the cabin. The reduce the noise you have to remove it from "auto" but it still took too long to cool. Great car otherwise.
