s65 cylinder misfire please help!

Been going on for a while.. cant find the problem maybe you guys can help. Every time i accelerate fast car gets all rough, turn it off and back on it becomes smooth again, until i press the gas again pretty hard. Diagnosis shows that cylinder 2 is misfiring. Any one know what can be the cause? Any help will be great.

thanks

possibly ignition coil? not familiar with that motor but if it is just coil on plug just swap that coil to a different cylinder and then clear your codes go drive it and see if the misfire follow that cylinder.

Nope- there's 2 coil packs on the 65, one for each side of the motor.....when 1 coil goes out, the whole "coil pack" will go bad, thus you will be hitting on 6 cylinders. This happened to me 2 weeks ago and this is exactly what my tech told me.

Check with your dealer for a service bulletin that requires the ECU to be flashed with the latest software version.

My G55K has a similar problem but it indicates #4 cylinder misfire ( code PO304 ).

Occurs, not always, only on hard acceleration.
You'll feel the misfire, engine may stumble, but shutting down and restart eliminates problem.

There was a service bulletin issued in late 06 to resolve the problem on the G55K.

Thanks for your replies! Busa did you change one of your coil packs? How much was it. And RBYCC after that ecu flash from the dealer it stopped misfiring? Also are are the s600 coil packs the same?

Thanks!

Depending on the mileage of the car, it may be due for spark plugs. You will need 24 plugs plus 24 insulators that need to be replaced in the coil towers. It can be done in your garage if you are handy, but you do need to unbolt(not remove) the intercoolers and swing them out of the way and then you have to remove the $$$ coil packs out without damaging them. If it needs a coil, they are about $1000 each+-. If your car has an early ignition module(black plastic top) it should be thrown out as it is probably junk too. I have seen them cause a misfire on only 1 cylinder even though it is what charges the coil. Also, be careful because the coil primary voltage from the ignition module is 250V DC.

Your worst nightmare...
Had the exact same issue on my CL65, had both sides of the engine bank misfiring, so had to replace both coil packs and while I was it replaced the ignition pack as well. it is tough to diagnose either the coil pack or the ignition box since you can't really pin point which is bad. Since I was selling the car I did not want the buyer to have headaches so ended up replacing everything. Each coil pack was roughly 1200 x2= 2400 + ignition box 750. it was a hefty bill but car felt like new.

interesting. i am assuming a good aftermarket warranty would pick these up right?

also, other than misfiring, is there different symptoms that would lead one to believe something is wrong?

does anyone have the maintenance schedule for this car? when is one theoretically supposed to replace the spark plugs. i just bought my car and actually still waiting delivery. it has 36k on the clock so i guess i would like to make sure i am getting everything done on time.

The 65 calls for a plug replacement at 60k miles. I just got my service B performed at 63k miles and had a coil pack replaced under warranty at the same time- my service rep never said a word to me about the plugs.....and it would have been half the labor cost since they already had one coil pack off the car. I didn't even thin about it until after the fact, go figure. Guess I'll worry about it later. My brother just got the plugs in his 600 replaced at 104k miles and the bill was just north of $1200
