S55 front brakes, pads vs. pads/rotors
hi all,
MB svc guy says may need front brakes soon.
can you guys advise how much this should be?
also, i've read mixed opinions on being able to just replace the pads vs. having to do the rotors also.
i know that many mechanics say "factory says you MUST replace both" and that it was designed to wear out simultaneously, but others have shared more practical results and said just do the pads.
since i drive mostly like an old lady, i wanted to know if it would be okay to just replace the pads.
what's the difference in price for pads/rotors vs. just pads?
thx all.
Patrick

2007 GL450 2003 S55
An indy shop in L.A. recently replaced the pads and rotors on my 2003 S55 for $1,300 using MB parts. I didn't bother getting a quote from my Benz dealer, but it probably would've been well over $2,000 for the same job.
From what I understand, you replace the rotors every other time you replace the pads.
Let us know what you end up paying.
Thanks,

Mercedes S55 AMG
I just had both my rear pads and rotors replaced on my S55 for around $600 at the Mercedes dealer. They said the front would be more expensive, but I did not get a quote for that since mine are still good.

Parts are expensive for front rotors/pads on 2003+ S55.
Rotors are almost $400 each
Pads are about $300 each
(These are MB parts). Wholesale MB parts are about 20% less.
The rear brakes are cheaper. Rotors are about $150 each ($100 MB wholesale) and pads are $90 ($75 MB wholesale).

Aren't the parts less for the 2002 S55 - I think smaller/different than 03+?
