Wouldn't hurt to have the software update done, IMHO. It's fixed a couple of nagging things on my CL's head unit.
The maps... find them online and save some coin... for them new, shiny black wheels you should slap under that 55.

2007 GL450 2003 S55
Congratulations! I have an identical black on black 03 which I bought 1 year ago and I still find excuses to drive it. It's does everything well - practical, fast, comfortable and it still looks modern.
The dark side is when things go bad, but when you have a wonderful car such as this, caring for it is not such an ordeal. Just maintain it well and don't let things slide. I went through a few months when it seemed that everything was going wrong (mostly ABC) but now it's sorted out and is great.
If you have a local track, safely take it out for a spin and let it unwind. You will have fun surprising other drivers, most of whom have little idea of what a mini AMG limo can do. It's a thrill to pass newer 911 Porsche (non turbo) on straights, although I have been blown away by a GT3. People come over to check out the car afterwards. They say they especially love the exhaust note, which, at full throttle, is like thunder rolling by at 120 mph.

Welcome to the forums! Beautiful clean car. I was looking for a 2003-2004 S55 myself, but ended up buying a higher-mileage, but newer CLS55 instead. Still longing after a S65, but it costs about USD 530,000 as new (starting price is EUR 427.900 for the base model http://autot.oikotie.fi/hae/475416/MERCEDES-BENZ+S) over here and an imported used S65 would be taxed based on that crazy value with some age reductions...
