S63 TT vs 57S

What to do?
Magnificent car but in this economy and "bash the wealthy" attitude from every direction ,it scares me a bit as too ostentatious.
What say you?
the S63 is such a pauper's car no one will ever know it was almost a Maybach
or
poor b@st@rd can only afford a *used* Maybach.
or
Did you get a bowl of soup with that S63?
I'd stick with your S63 order (good job on the essential perf pkg). Reasons being-
1. The Maybach is old tech (W220 underpinnings and switchgear)
2. The 57 is kind of in "no man's land" and only the 62S makes sense to me
3. It'd be used rather than new
Of course the Maybach is much rarer but the bi-turbo S63s will take a fair while after release to become dime a dozen and flying under the radar is always a preference of mine. Perhaps rent a Maybach for a few days to get it out of your system but spend the real money on the forthcoming W221 AMG.

S63
If you're being driven, Maybach, but 62S .. which isn't an option you're putting out there.
if you're driving (which it sounds like you are), S63 all way.
if you get the Maybach and drive it, doesn't that kind of make you a chauffuer?
Of course, I have neither, and in the end you should always get what makes you happy!

I totally agree.
I usually expect to see a chauffuer at the helm of a Maybach. The 57S is the "sporty" Maybach, but it is still 225.5" ...that is 19" longer than the S63.. and will likely weigh in over 1K pounds heavier than the new S63...

I say get the S63 and don't look back.

Thanks for honest answer and comments, very much in line with my own thinking after all..
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
i don't know if it's such a slam dunk..
the maybach is RARE and has the bling, valet parking would be great in the city and it has a motor from GOD.
it would probably be the safest car for your family (if you hit something) along with being the most luxurious.
it will attract as much attention as a ferrari. it will draw a crowd.
the S63 will be quicker and much sportier (including accident avoidance) but won't have 738 lb-ft. torque.
it's MB's latest, greatest thing but there will be a bunch of them..
driving the 62 is like driving a limo because it is. but the back seats in the 62 are the best in the biz. like flying first class internationally.
are you driving the car or do you have a driver.. if you are driving it, apples and oranges.
i am sure that your family would appreciate the 57 and it's rear seat area more than you will when driving a 57.
drive the 57..

Yes, the Maybach 57S has more presence. But I can kind of understand some of the apprehension on the "image" front. It is funny. A friend of mine works for a company over here where the CEO was driving a Maybach to work everyday a few years back. Then we went through that period of very high gas prices a couple years ago. The CEO started driving a Prius to work.
It is laughable because he obviously could afford the gas...what he probably couldn't "afford" was the "bad" image among the environmental nuts.

But...the new TT 2011 S63 AMG, with more horsepower and torque than its predecessor, will undoubtedly be more spirited to drive and faster. Sure, it is not as exclusive as the Maybach, but it is newer technology and not based on the W220 as the Maybach is. Plus, it will be brand new for the same price. The Maybach's most impressive attributes to me, are quite frankly the rear seats - but the 62 wins here over the 57. The ride and noise are also sublime. Aside from that, for autobahn burning fun, the TT S63 wins hands down.
I say stick with the 63. If you think S class maintenance and repairs are expensive, try breaking a cupholder or the electrically controlled glovebox in the Maybach.

He also mentioned it's inadequate torque ,especially comparing to the vastly superior 65 series (that he is of course currently, allegedly driving)
Where do you have it serviced? My comment about the price of service is more regarding repairs. Maintenance will be right there with an S600, since it has the same basic powertrain. Brakes will cost more, but not out of this world.

had a 62, just went to Italy.. cool car but you need a driver and it needed more power.. i like my S65 better.
i prefer the design of the phantom but the 62 does have a presence. we parked it next to our tricked 430 in sobe and the 62 drew more attention.
serviced at MB of Ft. Lauderdale

) In Manhattan, you have so many S classes rolling around, that even the Maybach's blend in. I was in Manhattan today, and saw 2 62's. Even in Manhattan, the Rolls Royce Phantom has a very strong presence - not only are they the only ones around, but they have that extra charm that the Maybach lacks. (That's part of the appeal of the Maybach, it is understated on the outside but luxurious inside.)
Even 57S are used with chauffeurs here in NYC. I like them and see loads of them, but I'd stick with the S63 unless you employ a chauffeur.
