Replaced caliper covers on my 221 65

I recently purchased an '07 S65 and although the paint, interior, wheels, etc are flawless, the caliper covers are scufffed up, discolored and look like hell. I also just got the chrome AMG wheels for the car which did nothing but draw more attention to calipers/rotors. The car previously had a set of aftermarket wheels on it and the design of the wheel didnt allow for any access to the calipers to clean them, unless you pulled the wheel off.....and let's face it, the average 65 owner probably couldn't add a quart of oil to the car......so they remained dirty.

It looks like someone at some stage used an extremely strong cleaning agent, or some kind of abbrassive? Anyway, I knew I wasn't going to be happy until these were replaced.....it did look a little ghetto.....a beautiful, mirror finished 65 with brand new chrome wheels and a set of jacked up calipers....... I finally got them on and couldn't be happier. Finally, the car "looks" like it's supposed to.....lowered about 1.25", chrome AMG wheels and some decent looking calipers. Rotors/pads are next and I'm working on a tune as we speak. Some pics below.....and I'll post of pics of the whole car when I get a chance to get some decent photos.

Here's the old vs. the new......

Old ones on the car ......

Then the new ones on the car.....

And a shot of one of the chromies.......

new covers definitely looks nicer....about your rims...... looks good...but since you're buying new rims i'm curious as to why you didn't go staggered? imo they always look better and let face it with the power on that beast you can use every bit of extra traction you can get.

Do you mind mentioning which tuner you're using?
I ask only because I know someone with an 06 S65 and the first tune he ran was not performing as he hoped.

Brake Caliper Covers S65 AMG (2007) part numbers

Ordered from MercedesPartsCenter.com
Reason they are hard to locate is becuase Mecedes list the AMG covers as springs and not covers. The covers are attached to springs.

2214210091 SPRING (actually cover with AMG) Qty 4
2214211220 COVER PLATE (large plate covering caliper) Qty 2
0099901504 SCREW (replacment screws for large cover plate) Qty 6

Rear Brake Covers
1644230623 RETAINING SPRING (actually cover with AMG) Qty 2

Money better spent is on a kit of 415mm rotors on hats with Brembo solid calipers!

less unsprung weight and no crappy two piston sliding calipers.

415mm will fit under the 20" wheel on 221 S-65.

Does anyone know if you can drive the car with these removed? As in take them off, paint them or have them powder coated and still drive the car until they're ready to put back on?

Thanks, Leo

the smaller square/rectangle covers are part of the shims that hold the brake pad, so no

the larger cover piece with three screws can be removed and still have brake functionality

@bajaleo I had all my covers off for a day and drove about 25 miles to and from work when I was repainting the covers silver before a brake job. The only thing I noticed was when the car drove over a bump in the road there was a “clack” or clap sound, it was the outter pads but there was no difference in braking. I’d say it’s ok for a short mileage. I used high temperature primer, paint, clear coat and vinyl AMG decals off ebay. Here’s the result!

Buy 2 sets, you will need 4 2inch stickers for the front. Spray color, use tweezers to lay the stickers then clear over. Good luck! Send some before and after pics.

Ah ha, I see what you did there! You cut them up and used the individual characters to get the curve. Very good.

AMG Caliper Decals / Stickers

Does anyone have a source for the curved stickers / decals to make the job a little easier? On a few other threads they said the curved decals off ebay were not the correct size. Is there an OEM part number?
Thank you,

Thank you,
You probably have to take measurements and order by size. Check out the post above where the person had to cut up some straight decals in order to get the correct curve and letter spacing.

otherwise it’d be pretty wild if anybody made the decals for these front caliper amg logos. These calipers were not used anywhere but w216/221 cars from what I know... not very common at all

What rotors are you using here? I'm assuming they're a little cheaper than oem.
