vacuum leak 03 s55 amg

First actual thread other than the intro thread. I changed my valve cover gaskets the other day. Now after reassembling everything i have a rough idle and feels like a miss sometimes when coming to a stop. It sounds like i have a vacuum leak on the drivers side. but by visual inspection I couldnt find an broken or loose lines/hoses. I have been trying to find some vacuum line diagrams but am having no luck finding anything useful. I did see on an old thread in the CL55 section about there being a stainless line that sometimes comes out when people do valve covers but i dont know where it is located. Was wondering if anyone had any diagrams of all the vacuum lines. Im gonna see if i can use the smoke machine at work sometime during this week to see if can find where its leaking from.

here is a pic of my car

Did you plug the line back under the supercharger inlet ? Right by the firewall...

it turned out being the line under the supercharger. i thought that it was connected to a hose and didnt know that it went directly into an opening. I couldnt get a good view so I ended up using a borescope to see where it went.

Sorry to revive an old thread but that is exactly where my leak looks to be coming from after the smoke test. I'm going to put my borescope down there today but if so does that line just push in? Perhaps mine just isn't in all the way. Thanks!

It just pushes into a rubber bushing and also has a securing tab on the pipe that is held by one of the corner valve cover bolts....

Easy......just remove the driver side airbox and you can access it......surge tanks and blower stay in situ......

That was my exact problem! The line wasn't even in the the rubber at all! We sprayed some brake clean down there and the idle dropped so I knew that was the area. Once everything was apart I sent my borescope down there too and sure enough! Wide open! Thanks again!!

The infamous vacuum leak after changing valve cover gaskets. Even Mercedes Dealerships can make this mistake.

Look at the picture.

Yup... that’s the one... someone here was looking for it a couple weeks back. Thanks for the pic.

Not my pic but had I taken one during my work on my E55 it would have looked just the same! It seems that dislodging this pipe is VERY common when replacing valve cover gaskets.

1 for 2 on mine... so call it 50/50 even experienced mechanics get it right... first was the dealer under warranty, next was a dealer trained guy who’d been to AMG... it’s a crap shoot honestly... but again, well documented.

Something about the process of reassembling the intake makes this step hard to get right the first time. I’m not a wrench so I don’t know.

Cheers,

maw

Out of curiosity did you get any misfires?? Or any misfire codes?? I have bigger injectors in my 03 s55 so I’m sure my symptoms are more pronounced than yours but I had gotten a cylinder 3 and 4 misfire code after changing my valve covers. I’m going to go work on my car this weekend so I’ll be sure to look for that line you had left off, I believe I may have done the same.
