Potential 2013 S63 AMG Owner - Questions
The first is regarding the P30 (I think) performance package. Is it strictly a bump in HP/TQ, assumingly provided by a different factory tune/ecu calibration? Does anything else come with that package? Additionally, if one was to go with an aftermarket tune, that would essentially negate the need to find an S63 with the package unless I happen to find one with?
The second question is, is there anything particular I should be looking when purchasing a used 2013. Upgrades worth waiting for, known issues with this year/car, etc?
The third involves buying an extended warranty. I believe 2013's still can fall under CPO which may leave 1.5ish years left. However, it seems that the general consensus is to purchase an extended warranty, which from what I've found can cost around $5400 for 2-3 years/24000 miles. Although these cars come with a ton of power, I'm still interested in throwing a basic tune on it, (Renntech, AMS, Weistec, etc) which unassumingly will void the warranty, unless there's something I should know otherwise.
So far I'm looking for the upgraded stereo system although admitting I haven't heard one before as well as simple things like blind spot assist.
Any insight/thoughts/suggestions would be awesome. I'm still combing through this forum to find some of the answers I'm looking for
I talked to Weistec and Renntech, both companies claimed MB would not be able to tell if the car was tuned or not.
Hope this helps, GL in ur pursuit.
I've got my eye on a 2012 and 2013, almost identical across the board just need to wrap up selling my car then I can pull the trigger. I really want to jump into a '14 but I'm betting that they drop in prices, similar to these, in another 6-months to a years tops. So maybe the logical choice is to jump into a 2012-2013 for a bit then upgrade to the 2014's.

I recently acquired a black 2012 S63 AMG with almost 95,000 miles on it. Inside and out in show room condition. Don't know how this was possible - even the windshield is original! I am grateful that everything on it works, it's loaded too, and I am not about to change anything on this car - just will enjoy looking at it and puttering around in the neighborhood. By the way, the manual says that if you are out of gas and all you can get is regular, it's ok to fill it half up, just don't rev over 3,000 RPM and don't his the gas pedal more than 3/4 of the way. This engine, the way it is, is perfect. You can putter along at 40 mph with the engine turning at 1,100 rpm running perfectly smooth. If you don't go bonkers and stick to speed limits, you'll never exceed 3,000 RPM! And with a 10/1 compression ratio, you even do not need to buy high test! :-)))

I had the ML63 for 2 and half years and the S63 for a month. I would not want to part with either of them.

I did end up picking up a 2013 S63, Black with Black Carbon interior and upgraded B&O stereo. Single FL owner, 36k miles with remaining CPO plus I bought the additional 2-year just in case. I typically don't keep cars longer than 1-2 years but since its refundable and transferable it just made sense.
When I got it back home I found out the rear was partially blown so it just got replaced and wow what a difference. Looking to pick up a nice set of 21's or 22's to get the look I'm after but overall very happy with the car. I originally was looking at this one as a stepping stone into a 2014+ S63 when they came down to the 80k range but after seeing how the new info system works in the newer cars, I'm now leaning towards keeping this one a little longer until I figure out which route I'll take next.
The idea of 4Matic with updated interior/exterior was the draw for me towards the newest gen but the way this generation looks both inside and out also does it for me.
I'll probably throw a 8.9 channel amp + DSP (Audison) on the upgraded stereo as its amp just seems a bit weak for the speakers unless you REALLY crank up the volume. May also consider a fully-integrated K40 setup since my MB dealer is a preferred installer for it but that'll come after I pull the trigger on the wheels. I'll also have the dealer powercoat the brake calipers MB/Brembo red to set some contrast to it as well as clean up the current paint (silver/grey) that looks like someone spilled brake fluid on them in a few small places.
If I keep the car for a longer haul than expected, and the warranty runs out of I don't worry about it, I'll consider a stage 1 turbo upgrade since these motors, trans, rears appear to be capable of handling that level of power. And, considering there's no need to upgrade the fuel system that seems like a good time in this huge sedan =)
