At the other end of the scale from the A-Class, Merc is building a luxury saloon with supercar performance. As the power struggle between AMG and the German maker's other affiliated tuner Brabus intensifies, the former is working on a new flagship, the S69 AMG.
Producing in excess of 675bhp, the model is set to be the wildest S-Class yet, with a larger-capacity version of the 6.0-litre bi-turbo V12 from the S65 (right). With torque expected to be in excess of 1,000Nm, finding a reliable transmission to handle it will have been difficult - but our sources say engineers have managed to do so. In preparation for the introduction of the newcomer, Mercedes has registered the S69 trademark, along with SL69 and CL69. That means we've got a whole range of flagships to look forward to.

no offence there...but i highly doubt about this s69~
just look at how many s65 there are around~not many~yet~~
correct me if i'm wrong~last time i checked~there aren't many ppl who has or placed ordere for the yet to be released(in NA) s65~with that in mind~i just don't think there will be a "S69" in production any time soon~at least not as W220 and within the next few years~

The other questionable aspect of an S69 is market viability. Can the market really support 3 $100K+ AMG S vehicles? It seems pretty unlikely. If you're going to go all out, why not go to S69 and skip the S65? I just can't see a viable market of customers willing to go $200K for the s65 but not $225-250K (just a guess) for an s69.

Thats the 6.3 V8 NA with 500bhp that will replace 55k in 2 years time. The 69 was an April Fools joke, somebody from AMG Owners Club said, but it was published on 27th March and they said in excess of 675bhp, don't you think Mercedes' latest power hungry trips would make them print an extremely high no. like 800bhp, if indeed it was an April Fools?

They don't need a new engine; they need a new transmission. The S65 torque-limiter cuts 100+ peak HP. Tuning this engine could easily make 800 HP but it would shred the tranny. That's why this story was obviously bogus.

According to the USPTO, DC cancelled their trademark for S69 last month.
So at one point they did register the mark, but then apparently they have changed their mind (or the project didn't work out.)

While the article may have been newly rerun, the language is at least 4 years old. This first came out shortly after the 65 engine came out.
If an S69 is indeed in the cards, I would assume it would be a reworked version of the current one: with a power hike, with or without a displacement addition. The next AMG 12 is far off still, as there would have to be a regular Mercedes V12 debuting before that (similar to the 550 engine coming prior to the 63). If the 69 came out, it would replace the 65, as it would be even crazier than having the 63 and 65 in the same stable.
The "problem" is that the 65 can in no way be seen as lacking as an engine. In fact, the rest of the car has to catch up to it. Unlimited, the 65 engine cranks over 700 horses and 880 pounds of torque--over what the "69" is claimed to have, anyway.

Because you can order now (off the record) from AMG an motor management for your S65 with 700hp! Cost you only € 18.000,- extra!
It's specialy made by order from Norbert Haug (The sport boss from MB)!
For the S600, they can deliver 600 HP as well!
And just from your specialised AMG dealer with the normal warranty from MB!
Probably only for Europe and special customers......
