2003 s55 130k. My car ran great before i did the oil change no ticks. I changed the oil using pennzoil platinum euro 0w 40 8 quarts. I used a fram filter. Next thing you know i have a lifter tick. I read about fram being a poor filter so i swapped for a bosch, still ticked, then swapped for a mobile 1, still ticking! All of this after what i thought would be a beneficial oil change. What could be the issue?

Yes it's making that exact sound, I would have heard it before trust me, it came one day then went away now it's always here. I should have never changed my oil🙄🙄 joking of course.

Just a thought......add some seafoam to the oil while its running and see if the tick/tap goes away.....might be a dislodged piece of dirt blocking a lifter oil feed hole......if that dont work change the oil and use Amsoil with a stock cotton oil filter.....NOT fram...

The Fram filter is most likely the issue. The MANN filter is a fleece filter. When i first got the car i used another filter as well and the noise was louder than before. The Oil pump in the 55 is a high volume low pressure pump so a paper filter will not let enough oil through. Switch to the correct MANN HU 718/5x (Bennet and NAPA carry them) and see if the noise goes down. It did for me.

Good luck.

M1 is not the be all end all its made out to be in regards to oil or filters....its the same with BMW tranny filters....should always be Filtran. Always use the stock Mann/Meyle fleece filters with a good oil and you won't have issues.....RP, Amsoil, Liquid Moly , Redline.......switch the filter out...

Oil weight is personal preference based on climate you live in.....Im in Fl and its hot as hell right now and a lot of the time so I use 5/40 but Id feel just as comfortable using 10/40.....colder climates I wouldnt use less than a 5/40 but thats my preference....My Porsche 928 is 20/50 and my Bmw 750IL is 15/50.

I just checked the filter (the Mann is coming in Monday) I noticed the current filter dosent stay on the shaft neither did the Bosch or fram, they kind of slide off when I go to screw it back in the filter will slide off the assembly, could this be the reason it's ticking?

Bro,
If your filter is moving its not installed correctly. If you look at the Mann filter it has 2 small lines drawn on it....it has to be pushed on the shaft until the line aligns with the cap.....

Yes, but oil/filter is a LOT cheaper than new lifters....mine did the same thing....like I said...with car idling remove cap and dump in a bottle of seafoam...put cap back on and let idle....mine stopped in about 5 mins....quiet as a mouse. Also worked on my wife's truck that had sat for a few months and had a stuck lifter.....if this don't fix it its lifter time....is this the first time you changed your own oil?

BTW....MMO don't do ****.....

THis is my first time changing oil in a car, im 18 and ive worked on quads and dirtbikes my whole life. You really think the seafoam would work?? I just dont have the time/funds to be wasting on these things that wont work, seafoam then another oil change?
