The sensor in my passenger seat is messed up. Whenever I have a passenger with me, I almost always get a red message on my dash saying my SRS is defective and to go to the shop. The red SRS light on the dash will stay lit. As the passenger moves in the seat, it will go off and on.
Aside from replacing the sensor in the seat, is there another way to bypass the sensor so it always think there is someone in the seat and keeps the passenger airbag on?
Who has replaced the sensor in the seat? How hard was it?
ECS Tuning is an online dealer. I didn't take the old part apart so I don't know what failed. My car did exactly what your car is doing though.
Thanks. I'm going to unplug it and see what it does. If that doesn't "fix" it, I might have to fix it the proper way as you did. I think it's a silly sensor. Why have a car seat sensor in that seat? (rhetorical question). I really don't need it and I'm hoping to find a way to get rid of it and it's warning lights without dropping the$600.
I bought the kit for fooling the system but decided after that I really do want the front airbag to deploy if my wife is sitting in the PAX seat. I think the fooler sensor says "no one in PAX seat". Not sure and not worth killing anyone!

I only want to disable the sensor if by doing so it permanently thinks there is someone in that seat and always leaves the passenger airbag on.
I ended up buying a sensor bypass switch. It did resolve the issue and the airbag will still deploy. It was a simple solution for this problem. Apparently, these seat mat sensor fail quite a bit in all the BMW, MB, and Audi cars. I found tons of info on it, mostly out of europe where these cars are more common.
I too have the 'Sensor Mat Front Passenger Malfunction' error. It shows as a warning on the dash which you can accept and close. Luckily it does not show as a persistent SRS light.
I am due an MOT in a few weeks and I too do not want to fit a cheat device. It is open to interpretation to see if the tester will fail it or not...
Anyway, I confirmed the error code with diagnostics, and stripped the passenger seat to get the right part number (as there are a few floating around for passenger mat sensors). Quite an easy job, two torx bolts underneath, pop up the base and snip cable ties to release wires. Leather wrap then just peels off, and unpick the heated lines. The mat did not look physically damaged in anyway, but is definitely faulty (I cleared the faults, cleaned all the connectors, but it always came back when no one was in seat, would work find with someone in it).
I confirmed the mat is part number A2078700610 on my 2014 C63 204 Coupe. I have also confirmed Mercedes no longer makes these parts and you cannot order any new ones. No fix what so ever. I asked them for a workaround, but they said just look online, which there are none. Great job merc!
