Billet/Poly engine mounts for S65 and S600 M275
How do your mounts compare to stock for isolation/NVH?
How long can the mounts go before a rebuild is needed?
What is the price for the components that would be needed for a rebuild?
Guys how many hours of labor has the dealership quoted to replace mounts for your bent 12? I recall 12 hours. I did them in two hours.
First up.... This happens on a hoist. Get a case of brakeclean as you will use it to clean things up.
Airtools and a strong assistant are required.
Pull all three pieces of plastic under engine and trans. Makes a big handful of those screws with the nice fat washers that have an 8mm head on them. This is your opportunity to replace all the female guys the screws mate up with as there are a number of them that are junk by now. MB stocks them and the screws.
A screwjack with a 2X4 cut to an appropriate length will make it easy to spread out the load of picking up the engine.
Unplug the electrical connector at the steering rack. Follow the steering shaft from inside the car to the rack to find it.
A Sharpie pen will mark the steering shaft for where it belongs. One 13mm head bolt gets removed and the steering shaft slides up and out of the way. Four fasteners hold the steering rack in place. The steering rack does not get removed. Support the steering rack. Pull them fasteners. Now you have access to bolts on top of engine mounts. Pull them. Bit of a treat to do. Seems like I may have got to the driver's side bolt on top of the mount from above with a long extension and a wobbly. Others feel free to chime in. Pull fasteners on bottom of engine mounts. Engine mounts are now free agents. But they don't just jump out of there.
There are (if failing memory serves) a couple of PITA little fasteners that connect the ABC line from valve body to R/F wheel on the subframe. Pull them. Be sure the line can move around.
Support the engine with screw jack. Pull fasteners for front subframe. It is connected to all the suspension parts so it won't just fall out.
Your engine is on a screw jack. Don't screw up! Raise the engine while wrestling the subframe down with a pry bar. Be gentle and choose what you pry against carefully. Make enough room for driver's side mount to come out the rear. It is the easier of the two. Passenger side requires a certain amount of colorful adjectives.
You'd think that the new mounts would just jump back in there but nooooo.... You are replacing dead mounts that are shorter then the new mounts. Be patient... They go in.
Assembly is opposite of disassembly. A second screw jack is required to lift the subframe back into place.
Take your time.
Wow I hate the bulletin board software that 'edits' my spelling, adds words or moves the cursor a paragraph up!
