Mercedes S65 AMG worth it?

Okay guys, just wanna know your opinions. Do you think the S65 AMG is worth it or is it for people who dont know where to spend there money and will end up getting the S65 AMG? New S class comes end of 2005 but really should wait a year so that first year faults are taken out, so new S would be bought in 2 years time and not just one. I personally think that although its a big jump from S55 AMG and S600 its actually worth the extra money!

Should someone just get the S55 AMG or the S600 or is the S65 AMG worth the extra monies and a good buy?

True but the new W221 might look better in S600 form than AMG form so thats why it was left at just W221 and no specific model.
Also, the W221 (AMG or not) will be atleast 2 years before getting the 2nd model year so I think waiting for the W221 isnt really a good option as you can have a new car and then get the W221 in 2 years time as well (which makes me think why I put that option in the poll in the first place )

I personally think they will be faster this time adding an AMG model to the S-class program..

If the car is worth it? I think it's the wrong way to ask the question. It's more like if you pay those money.. will you be more satisfied than before? IE.. does the car contribute more to your "feel-good" than the money you spent on it did before you spent them. Only you can answer that one.

That is also what should crystalize the answer of what to choose.. a S55, S65 or a S600.
The S600 is a bit more "soft" in the overall feel than the S55.. and is the better car if you prefer such qulities more than stiffer suspension and a bit ruffer engine.
The S600 is faster than the S55 one should know though, due to more torque.
..and the S65 is even faster

Then of course.. there is also the Brabus versions to consider...

Where shall it all end.

Do you need the power? Will you have any benefits from the extra power in the S65 compared to the S55?

I know f.x. that a SL600 is faster 0-60 mph than the SL65...
Sure... 60-120 f.x. is a whole other story..
How fast do you drive?

I dont see the benefits from the extra power and I dont think the extra power is needed either but the S65 AMG is now the top of the range model but will it give a good feel to the extra money being spent? Thats the 2 reasons that are going for and against the S65 AMG for me.

(I dont see any other 5 seater as good as the S65 AMG. Are there any others?)

To be realistic, I don't think any standard Merc looks better than its AMG version. The AMG cars have a special factor, which is "Dont **** with me styling". Also, there won't be an S55, it will be replaced by the S63. Which is good really because it makes a bigger distinction between models.

500bhp/500nm S63 for sportyness
500bhp/800nm S600 more torque than S63 but more comfort
612bhp/1000nm S65 get the hell out of my way

Yes, that could be one thing if that's what you're after. The "feel" of just having 612 hp.
Of course, that can be worth a lot of money..

The S65 together with the S600 also has a smoother engine than the S55.
I personally would at least consider buying the S600 instead of the S55. I think that engine suits such a car a bit better. Also the suspension is a bit softer, wich also suits that type of car better. Just my personal opinions.
If one wants to drive on twisty roads other than for racing the S600 will perform faultless. If you wanna race on a twisty road.. then buy a second car instead just for toying. I would not buy a S55 for that.

The S65 though would be nr1 if I had the money.

lolz! I like the S65 AMG comment

But now that I think the W221 will be abt 2/3 years away before getting the 2nd year model (and maybe AMG) then a car can be bought before the W221. The S600 is probably more comfortable that the S55 AMG and also faster so breaking it down to 2 instead of 3, I would choose the S600 or S65 AMG.

S65 only way to go.

s600 great car, but if you drive an S55 as well, you'll probably pick the s55.

I did and not just because the s55 has much better gas mileage ,

Hi Guys, first post!

Im Vivaki's mate and I finally went and test drove the S65 AMG!

Unfortunately it wasnt the best of test drives b,coz after 2 mins of driving a sign came up on the trip computer saying engine collant level high (something like that) so the car went into some safe mode where it only accelarated as fast as a KIA spectra would

Salesman kept apologising and said he would fix it and call me back for another test drive possible Monday. I loved the car inside and out but I must admit the extra £50k you pay is only for the extra power. One could easily be satisfied with an S55 AMG but I reckon the S65 AMG is only for those who have an extra £50k lying around and dont know what to do with it.

Lets hope I have more luck on monday...will get back to you soon.

Hopefully Vivaki will be able to make it this time :p

If I could afford the car, It's the only automatic I'd want to have. There's something sinister about 738 Ft/Pds of torque that you just have to have. It may only match the 911 Turbo 0 - 60, but it smokes it in the straights after that.

If you can afford this car, you can probably afford to buy a W221 when they come out, unless you are spending the last of your lottery winnings.

well since everyone with the money to throw on it i'm sure they wouldn't want to settle for anything else, even if they never drive it to it's true potential. i know people that buy a car just because it's the most expensive one in the lineup, they don't even look at what features it has or anything else, i know i know that's not everyone but still, just a small point.
anyway though, awesome car

Is this fact or fiction...I read somewhere that the motor is limited to make torque at 738ft lbs....If that is really true, can you imagine what happens when you take the limiter off, holy crap. Not even really sure how you would limit a motor anyway, but again, if it's true (heaven sound fx played here)

It is torque limited because of the current tranny limitations.
