S65 is coming!!

I wanted to let everyone know that I just got some info. from our MBUSA Reg. Marketing rep. He confirmed that the S65 will come to the US in MY06 (still the W220 body) and will be limited to only 400 units for the entire country. It will be price in the same range as the SL65 and will have only a handfull of optional accessories to go along with all the standard 600 equiptment.

Won't this be a bad investment?

Is it just me, or does spending $180K on the old body S Class just before it is replaced with a brand new one, make no sense?

first s65 to be displayed at chicago auto show

just informed that the new s65 will be displayed at the chicago auto show, i was told that the car is in the states and is being shown to a very few select people, and as i was informed by the person who saw everything but the dashboard which he said was covered in a white plastic rap, the car closely resembles a maybach, as he put a 9/10 version, he also told me the car had what appeared to be some type of i drive system, well we will have to see what the future holds

I have driven in an S65

Sorry to tell you, but I have been in an S65 just last month while over in Germany and it looks exactly like the current model S55 with a twin turbo twelve inside the engine bay.

Frankfurt

The Chicago Auto Show opened on Saturday and the S65 there would have to be the old body style.

The new S Class will be revealed at the Frankfurt Show in September, 2005. I already booked my flights and hotel and now I need to convince someone to give me a press pass so I can enter before the hordes when the show officially opens.

The Chicago Auto Show did not open on Saturday, it is usually held after the Detriot show(Feb or March).

My point is still correct

My information on the dates of the Chicago Auto show may be incorrect, but my point is still valid. The world introduction of the new body S Class is in September, 2005 in Frankfurt and if there is an S65 at the Chicago show, it will have the old body.

S65 Release

Shoes, Sounds To Me Like You Are Very Informed On Mercedes Products, For Germany, But In The U.s I Can Assure You The First Time That Car Will Be Unveiled For The Public To See Will Be At The Chicago Auto Show, And Because I Will Be There With That Car, In February, I Would Like To Invite You To Be My Guest, And I Assure You That By No Means Will The New S65 Be Anything Like The One You Drove In Germany, If You Look In The Archives You Will See I Reported On This Back In May Or June, I Will Also Let You In On Another Little Secret, The New S Body Will Also Be Fitted With The 6.3 Naturally Aspirated Engine, Oh And One More Thing Where Did You Gather Information That The Chicago Auto Show Has Already Started? Because Evrywhere I Looked Gave February As The Time.

Thanks for the invite

I am wrong about the dates- it begins on February 11, 2005. Thanks for the invite, but I am certain that the world intoduction for the new body S Class occurs at the Frankfurt Show, so I am unlikely to venture from the warm confines of the Napa Valley to Chicago in February on a wild goose chase. If you can manage it, take a digital photo or two and if I turn out to be totally wrong, I will send you a nice bottle of Napa Cabernet. Send me a nice Chicago dog if I am right.

What you might have in Chicago is the CLS55, but the new body S Class, no way.

Agreed, it just doesnt make sense unless you got 180 burning a hole in your pocket. Keep the cash and wait for the new one in a year.

Chicago show is second rate at best, the only intros are for trucks and some other mass production (not glamorous) ,domestic products.
A car as significant as S-class would only be introduced in either Frankfurt,Detroit or Geneva.

S-65

Maybe I Will Make A Small Concession On What I Stated, The First The World Will See The New S-class Will Be In Germany, But The First The States Will Be Introduced To The New Body S-class S65 Will Be At The Chicago Auto Show, And As I Had Stated Before The Car, The New Body Style S Class Is Already In The States In Montvale N.j, Not For The Public To See, But It Is There, As Time Goes On We Will Only See Who Is Correct, And Forget About The Dog, It Is Pizza Here.

Semantics

At the risk of prolonging what appears to be a point of semantics, you could be correct that the S65 will have its US premier at the Chicago Auto Show. I even doubt this since the Detroit show preceeds it and is more prestigious. What you are definately incorrect about is this- the S65 debuting at either of these two shows will have the W220 body that is the current S Class since this is the only body they can possibly use until a replacement is introduced at Frankfurt in September. I have driven this car in Germany a month ago and while it is extremely impressive, it is not where I would park $180K of my money since the new body will hurt its resale.

Maybe Benz will change the styling of the W220 and maybe not. I am inclined to believe that the body style will change ever so slightly and that it will be fitted with an engine similar, if not identical, to the SL65 rocket.

Who can say whether the W220 will change? As an actual owner, I see nothing wrong with any aspect of this fine automobile; besides, how many units are sold in this class to make a complete chassis change a good investment? My answer back to all is that the S55 or future S65 accounts for less than 5% of total sales and that this would make a radical change totally unfeasible, in my opinion. For my two cents – I see no huge change coming and I believe Benz got the body right from the get go. Such billions to be spent on future sales would be better suited to a more popular and affordable class of automobile.

Regards, Jack

Somebody owes me a Chicago hot dog

The S65 at the Chicago auto show is the existing body S Class with the AMG 12, same car that has been driving around Europe for the past nine months.

Anyone who buys one of these will get a spanking on depreciation. Not only is the body being replaced next year, but so are the family of engines. $170K now or $85K 12 months from now, you decide.
