Placing an S63amg coupe order -- advice??

I've placed an order for a 2016 S63amg coupe. I wanted to poll the group:

1. Upgrade to high end Burmester sound or stay with base?
2. Upgrade to designo nappa leather?
3. I am going with white exterior. What rims? I am leaning towards the tripe 5-spokes. What about the forged black 10-spoke rims?
4. Interior -- leaning towards black. Any thoughts about red??
4. Magic sky control -- worth it?
5. Night view assist?

I have to go with the Swarovski crystal LEDs!

Thanks!

couple thoughts on several of your questions:

definitely go with high-end burmeister

nightview- never felt it overly helpful

magic sky- neat for several times but rarely used after first month

1/ Yes
2/ Yes
3/ Go with the black rims and red brakes. I got the Edition 1 with the 5 spoke rims. They look OK but the black rims look better.
4/ Red interior looks standout
Magic Sky and Night view : no, don't use much.

#1 & #2 for sure, and go with the forged black 10 spoke wheels

Interior is personal choice of course, but definitely go with the Designo Exclusive Nappa.

I posted the 2016 DOG in another thread if you don't already have it.

If you want the Swarovski headlamps ($1750), then Night View Assist ($2260) is a requisite package.

Sounds amazing! Which wheels are you getting ?

I'm having a hard time deciding between the Porcelin/Espresso and Crystal Grey/Black. Wish they had a Porcelain/Black option for the coupe like they do the sedan. Not sure it will be worth the trouble and expense to try for a custom order although that is a possibility.

This is my preliminary build... every time I think it costs too much I look at the Conti GT and Wraith and I feel better about it. Have tried to consider the M6 but it just isn't comparable.

I went with the 19" 10-Spokes. I figure I'll get a tiny bit cushier ride without sacrificing much in handling.

As for trying to compare the S63 Coupe to any, ANY other car, there just isn't a comparison at all. Too many of the experts have already been asking the same question; "Is this the best car ever made?".

Forgot my build details... have plenty of time to change and still debating various things like the CCBs.

As for best car in the world, for me maybe! There are better sports cars and people carriers, but in terms of overall performance, style and quality, I'm not aware of anything superior as a daily driver. And unlike Bentley, Rolls, or an exotic, I can park it in the M.D. lot at work and not get a lot of grief.

S63 4MATC COUPE
049 designo Magno Cashmere White
978 designo Crystal Grey / Black Exclusive napa leather
H16 designo Black Piano Lacquer Flowing Lines
P34 Exclusive Upholstery Control Code
61U black DYNAMIC headliner
610 Night View Assist PLUS
5U5 Swarovski Crystal Headlamps
811 Burmester High-End 3D Surround Sound System
997 Driver Assistance Package: DISTRONIC
648 Wheels: 20” AMG Black 10-spoke forged
773 Exterior Carbon Fiber Package w/ Engine Cover
B07 AMG Carbon Ceramic Braking System

I'll likely have Dyno-Comp (a quality local shop) do their stage II performance package which includes ECU tune, high flow 200-cell cat downpipes, and upgraded plugs and air filters. Also a lowering module and video-in-motion too.

That's a sweet build. I opted out of CCB's because they kinda ruin the overall luxury. They're very loud and tend to chatter a bit, so unless you plan to drive in a manner that would demand more than the stock brakes can supply... Not to mention the cost of replacement. I'd rather have MAGIC SKY, a fridge and $5000.

It's weird because I've heard some say the AMG CCBs are very noisy and grippy, and others say they are not. I know in early generations they were very loud with poor modulation. I have read they are more noisy in cold weather, so the climate here in Arizona might help.

The $8200 extra (over the red-caliber steel brakes) would largely be offset by not having to replace them at 35-40k miles. I definitely do not need them for performance, as I don't plan on tracking the car except for maybe a rare 1/4 mi run; if I did I definitely would NOT consider them because of the cost of the replacement. With street use the CCBs should last far longer than I will own the car. Marked reduction in brake dust would also be very welcome, my AMG wheels now accumulate dust very fast.

If I remember replacement of the AMG steel brakes runs $5000-6000 at the dealership, although I'm sure it can be done for less by sourcing parts and using an independent shop.

Not true about CCB being noisy.
Grabby vs steel but you get used to it quickly.
40lbs reduced weight at the wheels is equal to multiple of that number reduced elsewhere, improves handling, ride and performance (easily equalizes one passenger).
I would never order a new car without them, I usually push my cars hard and steel brakes need new rotors after less then 8k miles in my case.
I would skip upgraded sound system (I can't tell the difference in quality of sound anyway), Magic Sky or any of the other trivial options which are just a waste of $$, IMO.

Good to hear that about the CCBs. And you make a good point about the unsprung weight too.

I will opt for the high end system as I'm a long time audiophile and suspect I would hear the difference. The factory HK system in my CLS63 pretty much sucks and I am confident the base Burmester system is a large improvement. Their home audio line is quite impressive - some of the most beautifully built equipment you will ever see. Too bad the coupe doesn't get the cool rotating pop-out speakers like the sedan but that is just eye candy.

I'm skipping Magic Sky, Warmth/Comfort package and Heated Windshield since I live in Arizona. Also skipping Split View as it lowers screen resolution, for less I can install a video in motion device. The refrigerator I was not planning to order but could always get one later, I believe it just plugs in.

Not just "eye candy", serious "wow factor". I really do feel cheated about those twisting, glowing tweeters!

My car was built on Tuesday, June 23rd. It was made without the Swarovski Crystals. When I ordered it, 12/17/14, they were standard equipment. Now I'm in a fight to get them added. Dealer says, "even though you have Night View Assist Plus, they can't be added". I said, "I want a technical explanation and/or pictures of why/what makes the headlamp housings not interchangeable. I’m betting they are!"

I'm taking bets on whether I get free Swarovskis, or triple the MSRP as compensation.

Yours is a MY16, yes ? According to the Dealer Ordering Guide they should be available as a $1,750 option with Night Vision Plus being a requisite. I agree it is hard to believe the housings would not be interchangeable!

Yes those tweeters in the sedan are really cool, not sure why the coupe doesn't get them. Also wish the coupe had the tilting/sliding roof like the sedan, but I can see with the roof shape and need for rear headroom why that was not possible

Okay... My car lands in Baltimore on 7/14. It gets to the dealer a week later, where it will have the headlamps replaced with 5U5 ones and the cup holder cover too. $1750 more. I can live with that.

Yeah, roof not opening isn't good, but I rarely open my roof, so it doesn't bother me much. Magic Sky will be cool tho.

Awesome, can't wait to see pics

Magic Sky is very cool indeed, but here in AZ not so practical as the cover will always be needed during the day.
