S class 550 vs AMG S63
I am torn between the S63 and the S550. Is the S63 worth the extra $40,000?
I currently have a 2014 SLS GT roadster and AMG did a great job but I also need a car with a back seat. It's going to be an S class coupe.

Value judgments are inherently subjective and tied to one's net worth, driving judgments/skills/local rds&topography, etc
IMO, latest S65 Coupe (w/CCB and approp perf stg wheel option and cf aesthetics) is best value by far in any car on planet today
Life is too short to deal w/jerky/lemony crap of MCT of 63s or DCT of GTS (or its lack of tq and its dubious hatch safety struc)...nor the plasticky leather interiors of 63/GTS: IMO, ripoffs at their $175-200Kish pricetags or even at $100K
If needed a safe car w/back seat to transport kids would get S65 or, if tight on cash, S550 (w/MBC and approp perf tires, etc to optimize active safety): rest of MB lineup is fairly laughable IMO....neither particularly safe vs tail risks (think SUV brakes/emgcy handling/rollover risks, etc) nor pleasing in daily ergonomics (like jerky/hesitating 63 gearboxes or sloppy brake pedal feel of 550 or 63/65 w/steel brakes, etc) nor particularly elegant in detailing....if really cash constrained would just rather 2yr lease a zero option C300 sedan until could comfortably 2yr lease some new 65 w/bespoke specs....

I am surprised the interior is different in the S63 and the S65. I test drove a S63 a few weeks ago and found it most excellent.
I'm buying it to go back and forth to my summer home in the Smokies, an eight hour drive from Daytona Beach. It will be used mostly on the interstate. Though I'm a retired airline pilot, I hate to fly up there as I have to change planes in ATL.

2011 Mercedes S63 AMG
If your an AMG ***** like me and you need that power and exhaust note then S63.
The cost of brakes on the S63 is a little ridiculous, around $1500 per rotor (not even carbon ceramic!!!) compared to $250 on the S550.

IIRC only interior difference between S63 and S65 is full leather headliner on latter vs alcantara on former
Everything else inside is the same
Exterior difference is chrome S65 vs matte S63 trim bits plus some different wheel choices
There may be other minor differences but I think I got them all

I honestly can't tell if WSH is real or a spambot

On top of it the S65 is useless with it's ridiculous lack of traction.
All that "superior" power is on paper only, in real life the AWD S63 runs circles around it.
The S65 is the real rip-off pushed on ignorant folks who only want "the best".
The resales only prove that point.

I live 20 miles north north of the speedway. The Daytona Flyer is the car by my info on the left. I'm also a retired airline pilot. Hence Daytona Flyer.
Hell, I've got a Brittany Spaniel called Flyer.
Google Daytona Flyer to read about the race car.
