So far I've only read about the coupe getting revised bumpers and lights for MY18, making me think the new guts will be put off until MY19.
It's impressive they were able to meet or exceed the M157 output with the 4.0L V8TT, probably not much headroom left by the factory. I never did an ECU tune on my 5.5L as it was fast enough and didn't want to void the warranty.

No doubt the new engine is phenomenal. It needs to be as the the preceeding 5.5L V8 biturbo, 6.2L n/a, and 5.5L supercharged were all epic. The M177/178 with the most aggressive factory tune exceeds the rated M157 horsepower with similar peak torque. The inevitable loss of lower end torque resulting from reduced displacement may not be a good thing for a 2+ ton car used a daily driver, but no doubt it will be at least as fast 0-60mph and almost certainly faster at the 1/4 mile. Unlike the M157 there cannot be much headroom @ 600hp for aftermarket tuning. On the other hand, the lower powered variants as in the C series should be easy to boost.
I don't really care about the bumpers and lights, they look great on the current model. But the technology updates seem desirable. Sure would be nice if the 2015-2017 firmware could be updated to the new COMAND but chance of that is slim to none!

With new engines, Comand, driving assistance, etc.
Announcement probably IAA Frankfurt (september 2017), production 1 or 2 Quarters later?

I came away very impressed with the new tech goodies in the E, which I had not experienced in person before. The display is noticeably sharper with less glare. The new COMAND interface is gorgeous and so much more intuitive - it's easily the best infotainment system I have seen. And I liked the 9-sp transmission - it was very smooth and quite responsive with fast shifts in Sport modes, with no roughness or clunking.
A new safety feature I noticed - the car instantly goes into Park when you turn off the ignition, rather than Neutral... a few times, usually when I've been on the phone or otherwise distracted, I've come close to disaster when I turned off the ignition without putting it into Park first, and it started to roll. On my car, it takes a fairly firm press of the P button to get it into Park, too.
I'm still curious when the new tech will actually make it into production cars... from HAWKiS63's post, it seems the refresh will be shown in fall of 2017, with production commencing shortly thereafter, so maybe it will be an early MY19 release.

Together with the S63 Coupe (C217) on display in September at IAA Frankfurt. so probably available Spring 2018.

If you can ask about production start and price level (delta % compared to current model), that would be great. Due to the new 4.0L V8, the S63 probably will be cheaper compared to current 5,5L V8 over here (where there is an extensive tax penalty depending on CO2 emission level) .
And of course details about the new 9-speed MCT clutch (in the S63) are interesting to know (the good news it will be able to handle much more torque than the DCT clutch in the other 4.0L V8 AMG cars.
Ordering can be done from January 2018, as you can read here: http://blog.mercedes-benz-passion.co...-heckleuchten/ (BTW, upgraded infotainment NTG 6 will NOT be in this car, but also introduced January 2018)

Given 65's 7-speed tq cvtr autobox isn't competent (~4yrs post-launch) in smoothness/throttle response in routine urban driving (though vastly superior to 63's POS gearbox), I have serious doubts abt competence of AMG engineers in solving these basic issues....
But any competent driver can judge these relative ineptitudes in a <30mi test drive on suburban rds (@legal speeds) anywhere relevant in LA or SF....and compare vs Porsche 911TurboS' tq/PDK/throttle response in similar conditions, all in Sport mode
The 0-60 times, alleged trk times, etc are marketing drivel for those who can't drive, nor understand risk-adjusted performance in real-world (esp vs mockably ineptly-engineered 600+lb-ft cars w/hesitant throttle response/gearboxes in critical routine driving maneuvers in traffic)

Also was hoping they would add sliding/tilting for the pano roof but seems to be the same fixed piece of glass with curtain.
COMAND and better displays and steering wheel controls look great.
I'll have to drive a '18 S63 sedan to see how I feel about the 4L engine and new 9-sp gearbox, compared to my '15 with 5.5L and 7-sp; I'll probably reserve a new coupe if the gearbox is significantly improved. If so I might look into an aftermarket body kit or at least front bumper.
