Steering Wheel function buttons lights not working

Hi everyone, new here, have an S63 AMG coupe with approx. 12,000 miles. The function buttons on my steering wheel are not lighting up at night (all are out), is there a switch/setting/fuse for this? Or is this something I should ask the dealer about since car is under warranty, I thank you in advance for answering.

Hi there ;-), Just saw this post and I have the same issue. Multi function steering wheels illumination not lighting up. Sometimes they flash. When I attempted to turn up the dash board illumination they started flashing and then went off again. MB dealer has not been able to work it out and suggested replacing the steering wheel.

Seems like there is an issue and they rather replace a part than investigate. They are not even sure if it is the steering wheel.

Anyone help will be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Thank you for letting me know. It was with the Mercedes dealer for 3 weeks and the car had many errors registered. It is amazing that they could not tell me it is the control module. They even changed the two blocks of switches on the steering wheel!

dealerships are filled with clowns who just do what the repair manual says. they dont know sh** about f*** when it comes to the actual internals of components.

The control module tells the buttons when they need to perform a certain function. when the control module is faulty itll either complely not work or some features will be malfunctioning. replace the module

can someone link the module part for a 2015 s63 coupe? My lights on the steering wheel arent working either, along with my lane departure, which threw a code relating back to the control module in the steering wheel (Or the motor that vibrates when u veer off road in the steering wheel) but im guessing its the control module since the lights arent working,.

I believe the part number for the steering wheel control module is A0994641500 - please check and confirm with the dealer and I believe the cost is around $100/120 - cost in the UK for me was about £70/80. In my case there was no fault code linking it to the control module and the dealer did not even tell me that a control module part could be bought and insisted that I needed to fit a new steering wheel after checking with the factory! They had the car with them for over one month running various checks! Ridiculous!

The replacement process is simple and takes about 20/30 minutes at most unless the screws are stuck (in my case one was stuck). First, you need to remove the air bag, then unscrew the existing control module which has 3 specific screws holding it in place. If any screws are stuck (due to oxidisation) do not attempt to screw them off as you can round off the head (as I learnt from futile attempts by the technician). If any are stuck, then you need to hammer them first to loosen them before attempting to screw them off (the screws seem to be very expensive to replace).

Currently, my steering wheel sometimes squeaks when moved but then goes away. The fault started when the car was laid up during Covid times but now it comes and goes randomly - still trying to figure out what it is!

@MercedesRaj1980 From my thorough inspections from a local shop, the main culprit for lighting on the steering wheel controls is indeed the contact plate and very rarely, the actual lights themselves.

In my case I have 2 issues, 1 being the backlighting on the controls, and the other being the lane departure . The Code for the lane departure points back to either the Motor that *Vibrates* or the Control Module. Being the backlighting isnt working Im going to assume its the control module or rather *Contact Plate* which is the part you supplied.

There is also a entire steering column (Not wheel) with the stalks that also has a module within it, however those from what I understand (Part Number a2229007608) do not control the backlighting of the buttons on the facia of the wheel, but not sure on the lane assist functionality.
