17 S63 cab slow launch

I just took deliver of my S63 Cab this morning (about 50 miles so far). The car is great but the only issue is that no matter what setting (S or M) the launch form a stop is very very slow.

You press the gas and the car move very slow for 1Sec or so and then goes. At a stop light my S550 would be much quicker off the line (first 1 to 2 sec).

My question is:

I know the transmission/gear box is not great but is the issue the car is so new that it need time to adapt to sport driving or is it just a default in the car that cannot be fixed?

Thank you

That lag is the most annoying thing. I had a 2015 S63 that I got rid off last month. I drove the dealer crazy as I thought something was wrong with my car. It thinks for a second or few seconds and then takes off. I got a tune from Renntech and still nothing. After 2 years of complaining last year I got a tune from Eurocharged which was lots better than Renntech and helped with the lag but the lag was still there. I am hoping the 2018s don't have that. For a long time I thought I got a lemon engine but then realized it's the engine or the transmission. It's annoying.

I never got rid of the lag. I had it for the entire 3 1/2 years that I had the car.

MCT sucks. A couple things:
If the car has <1K miles, you’re breaking it in gently,right?
Have you had a transmission adaptation done by the dealer?

This has nothing to do with engine mapping, a tune will just make the car faster once it is already going. This is a gearbox/transmission.

Yeh about the break in... trying to...

Have not done adaptation.

It is just the first second. You hit the gas (traction control on or off) and the car moves very slow for about a second and then it is OK.

We receive this response a lot, especially with the S-Class (Coupe and Sedan) and the SUV's. The main issue here is, that the torque in the (mainly) first and second gear is limited through the TCU (Transmission Software). So no matter how much more power you add, the 'off-the line start' and 0-60mph time will not improve due to these limitations.

We offer a TCU Software Upgrade for the Mercedes and AMG 7-Speed Transmission that sets a higher torque limit in the lower gears.

https://renntechmercedes.com/index.p...upgrade-detail

On Friday we upgraded the Transmission Software on a 2015 E63 AMG 4MATIC equipped with our R2 Package (716HP/826LB-FT) and the results were impressive:
0-60mph: 3.37sec -> 3.09sec
0-100mph: 7.83sec -> 7.4sec
60-130mph: 9.90sec -> 9.40sec
1/4mile: 11.61@122 -> 11.31@124

Again, no power was added. Just upgraded Transmission Software. We tested the software on different models over an extended period of time on the street and the track and had no issues with the transmission. The upgrade has been officially released for 1+ year without any issues and great customer response.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

This would be super expensive as the vehicle has to be present in FL so one has to add in the cost of transportation of the car including possible damage to the car during transportation. I would pass on this.

Correct, the upgrade was initially only available in Florida at our HQ. However, in the last few month we started extending the availability to selected Dealer (equipment has to be send back and forth, since the TCU can not be easily removed).
If you want you can share your location with us and we can work with a dealer close to you. Your cost would then only be the price of the update.

I know, I've got a Sprint Booster (very similar device) on my E500 and it totally ROCKS.
Mentioned it above but no one commented.
To realize how great these devices are you can simply switch them off for a minute and you immediately think to yourself, "what in the hell's wrong with my car."
The difference is staggering but lots of naysayers around here that never tried them.

Absolutely, the closest dealer to you would be Motorik Concierge in Studio City. Let us know if you need contact details.

2016 S63 acceleration lag, S63 slow acceleration, slow 0 to 60. possible solution

I read many posts on disappointing Mercedes S63 acceleration performance from a standstill. It appears that the S63 sedan does not achieve the Mercedes advertised 0 to 60 spec of 3.9 seconds
and many owners find their S63 to be running much slower 0 to 60 times of around 4.7 seconds which is what an S550 will run

I recently purchased a beautiful black on black 2016 S63 sedan that had this horrible acceleration lag when launching the car from a standstill at wide open throttle.

When launching the S63 at WOT, the car would exhibit approximately a 1 second lag in acceleration (pulling lightly and moving forward slowly) and then finally pull hard like it should.
This 1 second lag in acceleration resulted in 0 to 60 times I measured that were 4.7 or 4.8 seconds which again is much slower than the Mercedes advertised 0 to 60 time of 3.9 seconds.

Like many S63 owners, I was very disappointed at my cars performance. I read about wet clutch adaptation procedure that the dealer could perform]
But before that, I simply tried a transmission reset. After performing the transmission reset, I launched my S63 hard (wot from a standstill) multiple times over the next 5 days. At almost every opportunity I would launch the S63 at WOT.
The wet clutch slowly started to behave differently. The acceleration lag decreased, and on the 5th day the WOT acceleration from a stand still was more linear and much improved.
I didnt know how much improvement there was in the 0 to 60 time until I measured it (safely on a deserted country road) with a G Tech performance meter.

The results were surprising and I was very happy!
My S63 sedan was consistently running approximately 4.0 to 4.1 second 0 to 60 times (with one measurement at 3.88 seconds) which was almost at the Mercedes S63 0 to 60 spec of 3.9 seconds
So it appears that not only does the Mercedes Transmission reset procedure relearn the shifting to your driving style, but the MCT wet clutch will also relearn and apply faster and handle more torque for less acceleration lag and faster S63 0 to 60 times.
Again it appears that the MCT clutch took a number of days of hard launches to respond differently. But now my S63 is consistently faster and running 4.0 to 4.1 second 0 to 60 times.

Offical Mercedes Spec for S63 0 to 60 acceleration time

The link is the official Mercedes 0 to 60 Spec for 0 to 60 acceleration time.
Note it is 3.9 seconds according to Mercedes. Which many S63 owners are not achieving

Sounds like fun. If you go back to driving normally, does the lag return?

No! The acceleration lag does not return after normal driving. However I do give it a couple of wot launches daily just to keep it happy 😊
