I have recently purchased a beautiful 2015 S63 Coupe directly from the Mercedes dealership here in Germany under their certified program called Junge Sterne. This means the car comes with 2 year full warranty and is fully checked before it is sold.
Well, after about 1 month of driving I saw that some parts of surface are missing on my ceramic brakes. These chopped off surfaces are very small, but still. The question is - should I worry about it? Is this normal for ceramic brakes? The car has only 26k miles, so it is almost new.

seems like they say they last longer than normal brakes. I think maybe 40 to 50k mi
those look normal to me, i would have the pads measured. I dont know any specs but should be on the cpo insp record.

Thanks for your advice.
This looks normal. The micro pits are caused by dirt on the disks which also causes them to squeak. They will get rubbed off as you wear the disks further but more pits in different spots will also develop. Pads look thick. You should be able to get lots and lots more miles from them.
Hello Dan, thank you very much for your comment. Unfortunately, I cannot zoom-in close enough to see, but your discs look as good as new to me.
The spots that are missing on my discs, are (from what I read on the internet) part of the so-called friction layer.
Once you have these spots missing, they (apparently) never reappear again.
I haven't seen something like I have on another car, yet.
Hi guys,
unfortunately the worst thing, I could have ever imagined, happened to me today. At this point I am confused, dissapointed and unsure what to do next. Earlier today I was driving on the autobahn at about 180-200KPH (~ 110MPH) and a very slow car at the last moment decided to overtake a slow driving truck (~ 80KPH/50MPH), I had to brake intensively at the last moment, but all was good, I managed to break just in time and kept driving home. In the evening I went to the garage to retreive some stuff from my car and wipe out the interior a bit and I saw this.
As you can imagine, I am absolutely shocked.
I have bought this car less than 4 weeks ago, I have driven it gently for the whole time, have even really enjoyed the performance of the car so far, managed to put only about 2600 kilometers (~ 1600 miles) on the car including a couple of trips to Germany while the borders were still open.
Now I am stuck with the car, that is practically defect, unable to drive it. It is fully covered by the Junge Sterne warranty, so I am going to contact the HQ in Germany and demand the replacement of the brake disc. I am absolutely shocked, I even have a written confirmation from the salesman that the brakes are fine.
At this point, any suggestions for me?
Is there anyone who can help get this through to the MB?

very sorry to see this! They might be under warranty. Regardless you need to have it checked ASAP.
once replaced your beautiful coupe will be perfect again just focus on getting it fixed and back to perfect shape!
On Monday going to my Mercedes dealership to see, what we can do about it.
UPDATE: The dealership has evaluated the brakes and they have taken a couple of pictures of the damage. They will create a report and send it to Daimler HQ for approval. Once/if approved, the brakes will be replaced. If not approved, will see what else can be done.
Good news!
I have received a call today from a Mercedes client service and they have told me that my brakes (both front discs) will be replaced under warranty at no cost. Thank God!
