S63 coupe 4matic
M157 S63 coupe 2015

Hello to all, this is my first post on a forum ever, I have been reading on this forum scince I was a kid and now, forunatelly I am the proud owner of a C217 s63 from 2015. Got it with 54k km and Im now at 111k km. Mostly trouble free besides:
-brake discs, pretty cosly stuff;
-pulleys and belt;
-front-upper and front lower suspension arms, bad roads in italy;
-alternatorpulley;
-spark plugs;
-one ignition coil;
-diffs and trans oil at 70k;
I do my oil changes on the amg 0w40 at 7-8k km. I drive 50/50 really calm or really maniac, car eats 1 maybe 1.5 liters of oil between changes.
I follow the yt of tasos from dubai, and was scared of tunes so I am bone stock.
I want to ask you what should I do, stick with this one or maybe get the newer one with the M177? And what oil do you use and is good for you?
Any suggestions about maybe what I should prepare to change next if I decide to hold the car?

Here are some pictures, my engine and first time I got to try to reach the 300 mark. I await your advice!

If you can, sell it and get the facelifted S63. Much more reliable engine, more performance. I have bent my rods on my 15 S63 with mods and about 730-750 bhp, now forced to do full engine rebuild. So if you dont like lottery, dont tune it.

I have the ultra rare 1-year production run S63 cabrio M157 and it’s absolutely amazing. The 4.0L don’t look as good or sound as good either. You can always get a much lower mileage M157 final year so you can enjoy the car for longer as a ice but I will never be selling mine, it’s a keeper for life because it’s one of the rarest S63’s ever made. Mine has been absolutely bulletproof reliable. I also have no ECU tune (stock) but I did upgrade to AFE proDry (non-oiled) filters and I highly recommend them. Helps give a bit more intake note as well. I highly recommend running 2-3 cans of either seafoam or BG 44K injector cleaner every 5k-7k miles with oil change in a single gas tank (highly concentrated, one can not enough) and run the car hard. Does wonders for keeping it running right and avoiding carbon buildup.

I only have 40k on mine, bought it with 30k 3 years ago but I think as long as you maintain them well it’s a great motor. If you can upgrade to the final year of M157 and find the lowest mileage example that’s probably the best path (I highly recommend the cabrio with the designo yacht interior it’s gorgeous)

There is only one model year where the S63 cabrio chassis started and the M157 ended. If there were a Venn diagram of the two the only overlap is the 2017 model year. It’s also the only cabrio model year to get the much better looking horizontal grill instead of the less attractive vertical panamericana grille. It basically got the last of the M157s. The production numbers are very low as well so if you can find one grab it. I bet they will become collectible once people realize just how rare they are.

Sounds like you have handle on taking care of your S63, so keep it. As far as "reliability", I've only heard of 2 engine failures in the M157,
1 from Tasos (Who is only against bad tunes).

both were due to tunes. I'll say this, a tune from any mainstream tuner Renntec, Weistec, Eurotec or OEtuning (my tuner 2x) is NOT going to grenade your engine, and they will stand behind that.
I've never been a fan of Mobile1 so I run Shell Rotella T6 5w40, YES it's a diesel formula that is also rated for gasoline engines, changed every 5kmi. As far as additives I use only 2 companies products Lucas and Liquid moly. Car runs GREAT at 58kmi.

My engine damage was due to fuel injector failure. The fuel injector failure was premature, maybe due to tune, who knows. My tune was from renntech.

Well M-B had leaking injector issues back on the M156 engine. I think you just had bad injector luck and got liquid locked, not a bad tune.
