Unclipping Exhaust Valve Control Plug

Has anyone here unclipped the exhaust valve clips on the S63 Exhaust? I’m trying to install the ASR/Renntech exhaust valve controller and can’t figure out how to get the stock clips disconnected. Trying not to have to remove the bumper to do it - but it’s tight access. Here’s a picture of the clip. Pressing on the white part and pulling isn’t working. I read the A45 has a clip where you need to pull that white part out and then press on the black part - but I haven’t been successful pulling the white part out.

Any tips?

Cut the zip tie off. The white/grey part slides to the left (in your photo) to unlock and then can be pushed down to remove connector. It is very tight and a pain in the *** doing it on the ground

I’ve got the white clip popped out on each side (one came out completely - the other unlocked) but still can’t get the connectors to come off. Where do you push? Here’s a better picture I found of the connector.

Push and hold the white tab down towards the wires inside the connector. Pinch it between your pointer finger and thumb then slide connector off of the flap motor at the same time

You need to spry some WD40 on the connectors. Also need to put in some elbow grease because it’s stuck in there really tight. Seeing it done in person. Using a small flat head screwdriver helps allot.

Good luck.

Finally got them off! They are a pain. I found that you do need to pull the white tab outwards - but after that you just need to pull and wiggle the connectors for a while until they come out (and with a lot of force). I don’t think squeezing made a difference. I was successful getting them off when I focused more on pulling and wiggling than trying to squeeze somewhere. I did it from the ground with the suspension in the lifted position - it was tight and the angles were awkward. It would likely be a lot easier if you have the car on a lift. Exhaust valve controller works well - will get to test it driving tonight.

Thanks everyone for the help!

Very neat - I'm sure the hard work will pay-off with great sound - great job doing it solo!

FYI:

AMS makes plug in bypass connectors for the valves. The car isn't that much louder with them constantly open so we usually get those instead of some expensive module.

The module works well. I’ll admit I was a little underwhelmed with the volume on start-up at first - but this isn’t the valve controller’s fault, it’s the restriction of the OEM exhaust. I do like the ability to have the valves open when the transmission is in comfort mode. Driving on the highway this morning with the flaps open - I noticed that you do hear the exhaust more with the valves open at highway speeds - so it’s nice to still have the ability to close the valves with the remote at times. So I do think the valve controller is worth it over a bypass method that can’t be adjusted. Overall I do think it was a good buy - especially since the module can be removed in the future and re-sold. It’s nowhere near the volume of an aftermarket exhaust, but for the small price of the module and ease of installation (except for the one time hassle of unclipping the clips) I am very happy with it.

If you want to hear what your exhaust will sound like with this module - just listen to your exhaust in sport mode at higher revs - that’s as loud as the exhaust seems to get with the flaps open. It’s nice to have some extra volume at lower RPMs and in Comfort mode as well. If you’re looking for loud volume that will wake the neighbors then you’ll need an aftermarket exhaust.

Here's a link to my S63 with constant open valves and remus cat back exhaust on cold start. I wish it had a little more volume at idle so some mods are coming soon.

I have the Akrapovič system and I doubt I woke anyone up even when leaving very early in the morning ;-) — The videoclip from Technician. sounds fairly similar. That is to say I would not get the Akrapovič if what you’re seeking is a much better sounding coupe. They function far better than the OEM but sound wise, while better, it’s not a huge difference.
