CLA engine has shut-off twice while I have been driving
I am so disappointed with the purchase of my CLA. Today again, the engine shut itself off while I was doing 60 on the freeway. I had to find a place to pull over and kept checking my mirrors in hopes that a semi didn’t rear-end me. I don’t want to drive my car anywhere as I feel very unsafe! This is the second time this has happened, I was hoping the first time was just a fluke. I called Mercedes and they asked me to bring it in so I have an appt tomorrow in the AM. I purchased the car about a year ago and have 29K miles on it (I drive a lot for work to the Bay area and back). I spent an extra 14k on the 100k extended warranty package, tire warranty package and maintenance package. This was my first Mercedes purchase and I am kicking myself for it. The point of buying a new car was so that I didn’t have dependability issues. Boy was I wrong! I am hoping Mercedes can make this right. I don’t recommend this model to anybody.

Since I had the software update in Oct 2014 (2014 S63 - in Frankfurt/Germany) I have not had the problem. However the issue could be temperature related so I will wait to say its 100% fixed at the end of this summer. If you have 2015 S63 then I would have thought you must have the software update in the first place. Maybe check with your dealer. Good luck

I agree. It is absurd that a problem like an engine cut out is not logged. Please note that they could not find any fault codes when checking mine. An engineer took the car overnight approx 100kms to try and reproduce. No luck. In the end they suspected some sort of comms issue between the gearbox and cpu and updated the software.

I suspect then the problem may be temperature related and not solved since it happened to me when I was stuck in traffic and temps were around 20+ during Oct 2014 (I read other amg models had an issue with the crank sensor that may be the cause)
If it happens during this summer I am going to explode at the mercedes dealership here and may look to a lawyer to help with a replacement vehicle. This car is superb (more comfortable than my panamera turbo S) however I am really disappointed with some basic issues. Engine cut-off and driver door rattle (only when really cold outside) - not solved!
I must have been luckly before every porsche 911&panamera and bmw I owned did not have any issues like this merc.

Only a guess and could be completely wrong. When it happened to me it was end of summer and temps were around 20 C. After the dealer had the car and applied the software temps have been below 10 C since, so I haven't had a chance to drive my car in summer as yet.

How did you get them to buy back the car, I've had problems 6000 miles check engine light came on when slowing for a tollbooth, odd shifting occurred, after they "updated " the software I began having transmission problems that after numerous trips to the dealer and supposedly a new transmission the transmission is rough and is consantly "hunting" while it shifts, now suddenly it's stalling out. I'm totally discouraged after ordering this car specifically built with all the options. When I contacted MBUSA they sent me a letter of $2000 credit towards a new car. I feel I'm in for nothing but problems down the road. 2014 E 4Matic
