My S63 engine cut off while waiting in traffic....
Hi everyone,
Just curious if this ever happened to anyone, today coming back from work, there was an accident on the road, traffic was moving by inches, after about 30 or more min.'s in the slow moving traffic, I was using the hold feature by appliying the brakes all the way so I dont have keep my foot on the gas pedal, till hit the gas to move again and everytime after the hold occurs "ECO" functioned everytime and stoped the engine, finally came to stop light and just when the light turn green and hit the gas, car just stoped / engine cut off and the all the icons on display screen lit up like a x-mas tree, noting was functional and now the traffic was backed up little more beacuse of me, anyways I quickly apply the break and hit the start button to re start the car, it started, put in gear, but didnt wanna move for a quick second, finally start moving but it felt like didn't wanna move has hard as I was pushing the gas pedal...any comments would be much appriceated...

The car's control module lost calibration of where the engine position is. Could be a simple sensor trip or maybe a module needs to be re-initialized. All which is diagnosed through the STAR computer. Take to the dealer, I'm sure there are some "stored codes" registered in one or more modules.

I have had this happen to me in my s63 x4 times in the last 2 months (approx. every 2 weeks) since I got the car. Exactly the same issue/situation.
I will be taking the car to merc on thursday for an investigation. Since I am in Germany hopefully these guys have local experts and can sort it out.

UPDATE -> they just rang me to say there are no fault codes whatsoever when plugging in the computer. They are going to get a tech guy to drive it tonight with the computer attached to try and see something. I suspect it will not be fixed since the engine stall seems random when driving in traffic. Will let you know more.

That's how they ultimately diagnosed a very rare but concerning tranny clunk in my 2014 e550... They ultimately bought it back

Clearly this isn't something on the mb online radar (the technical portal the techs use in the dealership when looking for known issues). If they replicate it they will then likely involve regional techs and then Germany techs to solve this problem ... Heck your car may be the mule to trial the first software fix for many others!

UPDATE - The tech guy could not find anything wrong with the car driving it last night. However the suspicion is some sort of comms issue between the gearbox and engine control unit. So I am probably one of the first to get new software for the engine and gearbox!

Car stalled on expressway in traffic
Just brought a new 2014 E350 coupe and loved the car until today!!! I was riding on I95N doing around 65-70mph when my engine light and skid lights come on. The car started losing power and when you hit the gas nothing. I had my daughter in the car with me and it was a miracle that I made it to right shoulder to pull over. I cut the car off and restarted it and prayed that I could make it home. On the way home it did it three more times. The crazy part is I only have 1,200 miles on the car!!! I think this will be my last benz ! I had a corvette but wanted a softer ride. I should have kept my vette at least it didn't almost kill me.
Once I got home I was really pissed because I went online and saw a lot of other people with new mercedes with the same exact issue. Let see what mercedes will do for me tomorrow.

Just curious that all the people post that are having similiar issue, trying to norrow down and trying to find out if "ECO" start / stop was on and functioning, wonder if "ECO" is the one creating the problem...any comments...

If the problem does happen then I will drive with ECO off all the time and see if it happens.
This should identify if it is ECO start/stop, but it will take 6 months to determine!

This is exactly what I was thinking and am going to test. With the new engine and gearbox software I will going to continue drive with ECO on and see if the problem happens for the next 2 to 3 months. If not then it has been probably cured with the software (assuming the issue is not temp related since its cold now)
If the problem does happen then I will drive with ECO off all the time and see if it happens.
This should identify if it is ECO start/stop, but it will take 6 months to determine!
