Rear End 'whine' Noise

My 2015 S63 is a daily driver and has 42k miles on it, recently I am hearing a 'whine' noise coming from what sounds to be the rear end. It only happens if I am driving between 55-60 and I let off the gas so the car decelerates slighty and then I hear a 'whine' noise. I do not hear this at any other speeds. There is no vibrations when this occurs just this 'whine' as if there is slack in the gears. Has anyone else experienced this or does any know of any MB bulletins concerning this. Its not very loud but I notice it and would like to take care of it before the clock turns 50.

Haven't seen that happen on one before, but if it's that noticeable and easy to reproduce, your dealer should have no problem repairing it. That's definitely not normal.

I think I have the same thing. From 61-56 decelerating (foot not on gas) and I hear this whining noise. Have you ever figured out what it was?

This is normal. I notice it on almost every car I've owned. It occurs when you are in between accelerating and when letting off the gas.

If I change to neutral the whine goes away. So transmission makes that sound? Took car to a dealer we shall see…

If it is your rear end differential I recommend running Royal Purple Max Gear . Had similar whine on my E55 back in the day and when I put it in, the additives completely silenced it and the problem went away. It’s a nice cheap fix if you don’t want to have to replace the diff

The noise is caused by wear in pinion bearings. Just a little slop and a whine happens. Bearings that are easily replaced by someone who is comfortable doing it. Fine opportunity to fit a limited slip in place of the open differential virtually all our cars arrived with as standard.
