2017 S63 Vs 2018 S63

Hi Guys,

I am debating between 2017 - 2018 S63. I haven't owned S before but do own a Audi A8L 4.0 2017 model. So not sure which one to buy. Anyone can list out the points which are good and bad in between these 2 models.

Thanks for your help.

2018 is the post face lift model. All updated with the 4.0 bi turbo hot V8 with the 9 speed. A whole host of other upgrades makes it immeasurably a better choice to acquire.

The facelift model (MY 2018 onwards) is a huge difference to the pre facelift ones. See other threads for detailed comparison. Not only engine (4.0 V8 with hot Vee), also tranmission (9 speed MCT instead of 7 speed MCT) and more driving modes, (C, S, S+, R and I), differente 4-matic, etc. All improvements. Except the COMAND 5*5 seems a real downgrade compared to the "old" COMAND 5*2 (especially regarding online functions, see also other threads for details).

I'll make it short,
I'd rather have 2018 S560 then 2017 S63, the upgrades are more significant then they appear on paper and are immediately apparent after you spend some time in both.
It is my personal opinion though( had a lot of these cars over the years and speaking of my personal experience) and others, 2017 (and older) S63 owners in particular, may get defensive and vehemently disagree.
...and of course, first thing I would do would be a Renntech ECU which would make it equal or even quicker then the 2017 S63.

I heard the sound of S63 is very loud and impressive in older model (Prior 2018) than the new one. But I personally like the face-lift of 2018 though and I agree with all the folks who have answered. I already own a Mercedes GL550 and I like the way it sound so I am hoping the AMG at least sound the way my GL sounds.

And any known issues in 2018+ S63 I should be looking for?

Also I happen to see too many Lemon\Branded Title S63 whats up with those? I do know what a Lemon car is and frankly speaking I don't advise anyone to buy lemon but in this particular model car I did speak with Mercedes and they are saying being this very expensive car and clientele is super rich, just for their satisfaction, if they don't like few squeaks like breaks etc or have few repeated issues we buy back and resell them, and it does carry the same 4 year manufacturer warranty. So I considering the Lemons because of 2 things one it is slightly cheaper and second it got all the options what I need.

Thanks

As an owner of a 2017 S63 Sedan (ordered it in Oct 2016), the delayed acceleration from launch is awful due to a TCM programming limitation to protect the drivetrain, if that matters to you. And as other posters noted, the 2018 - 2020 S63's have more/better drive modes and a 9 speed tranny. Despite the "in the V" approach in the 2018-2020's which reduces turbo lag, the 2017 S63 might have more potential to enhance performance due to a bigger V8 (I don't profess wisdom on this, but I'm assuming), but only if you don't care about the warranty.

My 2017 S63 isn't loud...it is way too quiet. Test drive a 2017 and a 2018 to compare each of your key criteria. And, please do not buy a Lemon....don't trust the dealer hype. All manufacturers have model and year specific problems, including Mercedes (just my 2 cents).
