2018 S63 OR 2022 S580

Hey guys - new to this thread here so apologies if this comparison has been made before. I currently have the option to buy a CPO S63 with 33k miles or a new S580 at MSRP. The S63 can be purchased for 110k.

I’m struggling between the performance of the AMG and the new tech/driver assistance etc that is in the 2022. Anyone been done this road before or able to offer insight between the two cars? Options aside, which should I expect to have best residual value and reliability?

first time Mercedes buyer but absolutely in love with the S class in general. I recently sold my C8 corvette so I’m missing the performance but this will also replace my Volvo that is daily driven.

thanks!

Drive them both and decide. It's impossible for any of us to know what you'd like better. A new car is new, it won't need any costly service for many years and it has the latest tech. Some want that new HUGE ipad type of device, some don't. I have a 2018 S63 and I will probably NEVER sell my car, I love it that much. The new S580 doesn't appeal to me that much but it may TOTALLY appeal to you so much more. Just drive them both, you will then know what to get for sure. Be sure to watch at least 5 YouTube reviewer videos of each car before you even go out to drive each car. They will help you SO MUCH. Good luck.

2019 S63 4Matic+, 2018 E400 Cabrio, wardens car.
I had the same question up until last week when I purchased a 2019 S63 with 9K miles on the clock. I drove both and they are somewhat different animals. The new model is cool but I am not a fan of the new look, it just looks a little boring to me on the outside and I do not like the giant screen and minimalist controls in the interior. The other reason I chose the S63 much to my wife dismay is the sound and performance. I have always wanted a sports car but I do not fit in a 911 or C8 never mind the Italian stuff as I am 6'7". The beauty of the S63 is you really get 2 cars for the price of one. In normal mode it looks and behaves much like an S560 in sport mode, with the flick of a switch it turns into a serious performance car, is it a 911, no, but in a straight away it will keep up with one. The S63 is basically a race car in a tailored suit. Cannot speak to reliability as they both utilize the 4.0L TT motor in V8 configuration with the S63 having a different trans and 4matic system. All I know is I have a grin on my face every time I start my car up. It really is a personal decision though.

Totally agree. I testdrove both, and the S63 is really a car with 2 characters, especially since the facelift, there is even more difference between the different modes, Sport+/Race mode make it a real beast, but in Comfort or Sport you drive a "normal" fast car. If you debadge it and take a decent colo(u)r, you can drive rather undercover.

Without a doubt the S63 AMG. With about 32,000 miles on my 2019 S63 (picked it up Euro Delivery in Nov 2018 in Sindelfingen Germany) I love the car. Have been buying S Class cars for about 25 years and the most recent version (2018-2020) is an absolute awesome car for performance and luxury. I will only replace it with another new S63 AMG or whatever they call the W223 assuming it is the same or better than my '19 or I may just keep it forever. The S63 is my daily driver. After three years of daily driving I still get a smile on my face every day I drive the S63.

I also own a 2021 C8 Corvette and love that car. If you are used to the power of the Corvette you will want the S63.

Curious how our 2019’s compare to the Vette speed wise?

If you are talking 0-60 mph times--I have done 0-60 in the S63 at 3.29 seconds while the Vette I have done 2.7 seconds (both cars stock). I track the Vette and love it. I have taken the S63 all the way upto 186 mph. It is extremely fast. The Vette is also extremely fast upto 190 mph. I also have track experience with the AMG GTR. The GTR and S63 have more pull than the Vette over 120+mph. The Vette is a monster upto about 120 while the S63 and the GTR have a bit more pull in the higher speeds than the Vette (just my opinion). The Vette has just under 500 hp while the S63 is just over 600 (AMG GTR just under 600hp). Remember that the Vette is rear wheel drive and the S63 is AWD with the Vette being much lighter than the S63.

For a daily driver one cannot beat the S63 for the luxury/comfort and the adrenaline rush/sports car feel when you want it to be a fast car.

Notice that my picture below has my S63 at Road Atlanta AMG Driving Event. I am a track rat with my last AMG Driving Academy event was the Pro Plus class at COTA last month in December. I am an adrenaline junkie! The other posted picture is my Euro Delivery pickup day at the Center of Excellence in Sindelfingen Germany Nov 2018 picking up the S63--the Autobahn is fun with an S63.

Thanks! I’ve clocked mine at 3.17 (7.44 for the 1/4), but either way, we are pretty fast in our luxury sedans.
