Guys I’ve been lusting over an S63 for a year but the prices were crazy. Was going to wait but just blew my engine on my M6 so I guess it’s time. Question is do I get a 4 year old car that needs an aftermarket warranty and old body style or do I go for the S580 that has even more tech, new body style (not sure I love it but it’s new) and has some pretty good go. 4.2 sec I think. They are both about the same price.. s580 is a cruiser I know but soooo quite and crazy comfortable. Not really a fan of the iPad but it does look more up to date I suppose than the dash that’s now almost 9 years old.
I know I’m asking in an S63 lovers forum but I’m that guy too. Just looking for someone to say I’m not crazy for even thinking this.
I am exactly in the same situation as you, but no matter what an S63 is S63 hands down. I do like the new body style but the interior sucks the most hated thing in the interior is that vent positioning it looks crap.
And s63 is equivalently comfortable as S580, and I do hear you the prices are super crazy. I did finalize a BLK\BLK CPO S63 2019 model with 28K miles for $132K + Taxes but it's fully loaded with $190K MSRP when new. I myself am very confused and worried that am I doing the right thing by paying 20-30K more for a 2019 S63 should I go ahead with this deal or back off.
Also apart from GL550 I currently drive 2017 Audi A8L 4.0 TT which would get replaced by S63 if I buy it.
Anyway, forum gurus see if you can pitch in to ease our worries.

bro.
Life is full of risks.. is the older s63 a risk.. YES however as a previous owner of an s63 I’ll tell you. The s63 is totally different than the luxury minded s580 and s550 classes.. the 63 has tons of luxury features but it is of enthusiastic inclined and performance driven. With each car you will need a warranty as you know. Drive both and compare if you can but it sounds like you really want the s63.. Get it , make sure you have a bumper to bumper warranty and accept the risk that comes along with a beast like that, trust me it is a beast and an s580 does not compare. Hope this helps my man...
I did see that vent issue on the new one reflect in the windshield. Poor design. I keep my cars for a long time and hopefully can find a 7 year warranty here in CA. I’m really leaning towards the S63 for many of the obvious reasons but one that has always interested me is exclusivity. Not many even in SoCal where it’s hard to have something different. Not that I used my M6 to its fullest every time I drove it but it’s nice to know it’s there if you want to have a little fun or hear the symphony of the engine. I’m thinking S63 is worth the extra price of admission for warranty, parts and upkeep.
I was faced with the same issue and looked at both the S580 and the S63. I ended up going with the MY2019 S63 and paid around 124K for the car with 9K miles and a loaded up options sheet that put the MSRP at close to 180K. I traded in a 2015 S550 with 55K miles and got 46K for that car which was ridiculous as a year ago it was probably worth around 38K. I liked some of the tech of the S580 but it just looked too boring to me, they have made it look very vanilla and the interior is just not my cup of tea with the giant screen. The main reason I picked the S63 though is because I really wanted a sports car, sat in the 911 and the C8 and I just do not fit comfortably at 6'7". I wanted something that performed similar to these cars but that I could also drive on road trips comfortably. The S63 is very similar to my S550 when you put the 63 in comfort mode and that is great 90% of the time. When you put it in Sport+ though, it turns into a completely different car. Acceleration is awesome with a 3.4sec 0-60 and super crisp shifts. In Sport+ it goes like a raped ape and handles exceptionally well for such a big car. Is it going to smoke a 911 Turbo, no, but it will hold its own with just about anything else on the road. I just get a grin on my face every time I start it up and hear that exhaust note. Try them both and buy what you like but the S63 is much more sporty and somewhat unique. I very rarely see another one and car guys give it the nod because they know what it is. Luckily I was also able to chat with the service advisor at the dealership where the S63 was purchased new and learned that the previous owner was an adult woman that did all of the services and did not abuse the car. Very happy with my choice!
Wow that’s a good deal on a19 with that trade in! Congrats. Ya I love the fact you almost get 2 cars for the price of one. Maybe a little more but a great Jekyl and Hyde car or dual personality. I am 6’5” myself so I am done with low sports cars. I think I need luxury and sports too. This is a perfect fit. I am leaning towards the S63 especially if the prices come down a bit to reality. A 3 year old S63 is supposed to be max 60% of original msrp coming off lease in the good old days. Not sure when we can count on cars coming back to reality but might have to wait a little to see if it normalizes. Have another boring car that might bide me some time til prices are more reasonable. A little afraid these things usually drop like a rock and I’ve taken the brunt of it buying at Covid/chip shortage elevated prices.
I remember a few years ago an S63 could be had for around 60% of MSRP after 3 years. I am not sure when those days are coming back if ever on a specialty car like this. If you look on Autotrader right now at every S63 2019 or newer regardless of miles there are 78 cars to chose from in the entire USA. Even if you include 2018 models you only have 117 to chose from. Mercedes stopped making the S63 sedan in 2021 I believe so that is it for the entire inventory of 3-4 year old or newer units. Merc sales guy told me they are working on a MY23 or 24 S83 that will have an 800HP V8 with an electric motor and I am guessing a far north of 200K price. Sure feels like closing time to me, not that these cars might actually appreciate but I am not sure you are going to get a much better deal 12 months from now. Life is short, buy what you want and can afford.
S63 is great. Just great. Better than regular S’s and E63. I know. Find the lowest miles newest car, get extended warranty and enjoy. Life is short, have no regrets.
All has been said before, but indeed: the S63 is 2 cars in one and you will enjoy it every day. Try to look for a facelifted one, then look at the price difference, but then..........calculate what the trade-in difference is between a 2019 S63 and a 2021 S580 in 3-5 years or so, and you see that the S63 is not that much more expensive
2020 S63 seems to be the last S63 model with the nice dashboard.
I looked at a S580 2021 and I did not like the new interior at all. Deal breaker? I don't know - but I do know that I like what I have.
I have a 2018 and the lease ends this month - but I was looking to see what I can upgrade to, and it's looking like a 2020 S63 will be my best and only choice really.
Either that or I can just keep my 2018 S63 - which I may be doing. But I heard that the prices are pretty high and I figured maybe it would be a good time to trade up and save on taxes - but I don't know if the dealer here can get me what I want.
I was in pretty much the same situation. I got rid of my 2014 S550 and was looking between an S63 or a newer 2022 S500. There aren't too many S63s at dealers around where I live. They had several S500s. They are nice, luxurious and smooth. But when I was able to test drive an S63, I was blown away! It's a way, way different animal than a "regular" S class. It's really a beast, can be quiet and comfy luxocruiser, but step on it and the turbo charged 6.3 V8 pulls like crazy. Not like a 911 Turbo, but not that far off and it's pulling 5000 lbs of car. If you just start an S63 with the deep exhaust note, you will be convinced immediately. To me, there was no comparison. I was able to find a 2016 S63 with MSRP of $187k and only 20k miles for less than $80k so I bought it right away. It has far exceeded my expectations. Mine happened to come with almost all the options except the carbon ceramic brakes. I'm extremely happy with my choice.
When choosing.... be sure to drive an S-65 as well. It goes really well with 740lb/ft. Not as exciting as S-63 off the line as traction limited (rear drive only) but really pulls above 20mph. ABC with Magic Body Control is amazing. Love it. Interior materials are sooo nice. All the goodies included. I did remove the refrigerator from the trunk... two minutes to free up a lot of space for the trip to Costco. 222 S-class is another of those huge leaps ahead... as the 221 was compared with the 220. I’m not sold on the 223 though. Not into the massive screens. I very much prefer tactile feel of buttons that with familiarity are found and operated without taking my eyes from the road.
Had the opportunity to have the new s580 when it first came out. Had it about a year and kept looking at S63's w222 as they drove by. Decided to get out of the 580 before they depreciate more and jumping into a S63 w222. So far no comparison. First of all, I was starting to get multiple alerts with the new gadgets on the 580. Was reading that due to shortages, some of my options may get obsoleted until the chips are available. The s580 was boring as it is designed for comfort, no exhaust noise (normal) turned on the S63 and that growl made me smile. Was hoping to wait for the new S63 but who knows when it will come out. And with the current state of the market, though car prices are coming down, i.e. my s580 had dropped significantly from a year ago, mark up on new 63 is guaranteed. Look forward to ownership of the 63.
Hate to revive an old thread but I’m also in the same boat now. I really love the W222 S63 but also do like the S580 too. Anyone in the NOVA DMV area that has either and would let me check it out? I think I just need to get a feel of it before I pull the trigger on one. For me, both look nice and I don’t mind either interior. The only thing is, I always wanted a S63 AMG and I probably can’t afford the new one coming out lol.
I bought my 2018 S63 in September of last year, previous car was a 17 S550 4-Matic. As far as the interior of the W223 S580: I like it...really like it. But I went with the older S63 because it truly is special. Others say it's like having two cars for the price of 1, but to me it's like having 2 cars for the price of 2, by the time you factor in the cost of mainenance and potential repairs. But it's worth it for me, even though the newer cars have the upgraded tech, which I personally like a lot. The S63 is a different animal altogether, in more ways than can be explained on the forum. If I were you I'd try to rent both vehichles through TURO and drive each car for a couple days to see which one you feel like you want to "live with".

I had this dilemma in 2023. Rode both the s580 and the s63 (sedan). Both the same price, s63 low miles certified. I took the s63 in a heartbeat. The look, raw power, and noise was on a different level than the s580, which seemed too soft and tame for me. Also the s63 exhaust on sport+ sounds like an aftermarket exhaust system with strong gargles. Still have mine, 10k+ miles on it and I'm loving it. I will not be buying any AMG that is hybrid or electric, that includes the 2024 S63E.
I made the obvious choice...and got both. I got my CPO 2020 S63 in December of 2022 and it has been the most amazing car I've ever experienced. I've had exactly ZERO maintenance issues, and chose to replace the Continentals with Michelin PS4S which dramatically improved all driving characteristics. The car is so good, when my wife's Lexus died, she wanted her own S Class. She likes the more modern look of the new models. So we found a 2021 S580.
As a daily driver, the S580 is a more comfortable and luxurious. The rear steer makes parking lots a bit easier to navigate. The tech upgrades are very notocable with wireless CarPlay and the bigger screen. I personally don't need this tech, and prefer more a more analog experience. I believe there are more electrical gremlins that are starting to show themselves which makes me concerned for longevity. The engine is a beast and will not leave you wanting more power. The brakes are very strange and are too "smart" and become challenging to modulate well. The brake pedal travel is too soft and long, and you will get to a certain threshold and it slams the brakes, when all you asked is for a small increase.
The S63 is a perfect car all around. Not too soft, not too hard, easy to drive fast or slow. The transmission is more jerky, but it's fine once warmed up. The power is intoxicating and it feels like 200hp more than the base car.
TL;DR buy the newest S63 you can find. I am still of the opinion that the last model year of the old body style is always better than the first model year of the new body style in ANY car. And my experience confirms this.
