My 2018 S63 lease is ending end of July - Any advice?

This is the first time I have leased a car and my lease is ending at the end of July.

I am trying to figure out what is my best choice.

I can buy it for the residual and own it, but I suppose I will want to pay for an extended warranty? Or should I see what that costs and maybe go without?

It seems like there are no new S63's made, and the newer S Class has changed the dashboard and I am not liking the new look - so should I be pushing to upgrade to a 2020 model year S63 - perhaps the last great S63?

Right now I have the reclining executive seat option and magic sky control and beige leather, Burmeister High End audio, etc - It's configured pretty nicely, but I would be wishing to get a silver or other colour than what I have now (obsidian black).

I don't know what too do.

I have "equity" in the lease - the dealer will give me higher value than the residual - but if they don't have a car I want, what do I do? I looked at an Audi S8 and it was pretty nicely configured, but it's also a 2020 model year.

It's looking to me like it's the last of the gas burners as well.

Keep my 2018? Or sell?

I put a listing in the marketplace - not sure it's showing up yet, but I'd like some advice from fellow S63 owners. What do we do?

I just picked up a 2019 S63 with 9K miles on the clock as I was due for a new car and wanted a car that was both the ultimate freeway cruiser and could also hold it's own against most of the cars on the road from a performance standpoint. If you have had the car since 2018 you probably have a lot of equity in it as the residual is around 70-80K if I had to guess and you could probably sell it for close to 100K depending on mileage and condition. If you still love the car, keep it, you know the history and maintenance and that is worth a lot. The 20 S63 is going to simply be a newer lease return, as they stopped making the S63 in 2020. Word is that they are working on a W223 S63/S83 variant that will be hybrid gas electric and produce up to 800HP but that will probably cost well beyond 200K with options and probably won't be out for a while. That is why I purchased my S63, love the W222 platform and not wild about the new look and design of the W223. As far as warranty is concerned, I am not sure I would waste my money on that as the M177 and W222 platforms are both pretty well sorted although I think the 2018's had head bolt issues if I recall but I would think that would have reared its head by now on yours if you were going to have that problem. Have you had any issues with the car in the past 4 years?

I leased it in 2019 for a 3 year lease and I love it, everything about it. Maybe except for the exterior colour. It's black with the mean looking black rims. I'd prefer silver. Other than that, it's a bit of perfection. It's a quiet comfy limo, and instantly converts to an insane beast complete with firecracker exhaust noises to keep tailgaters away . I love the beige interior. The seats are super comfortable.

It just does everything right. For instance - If you park on a hill, put it in "park", it sets the parking brake automatically and the car doesn't roll back a millimeter. The doors with the automatic soft closing are great for dropping off my son at school and he closes the door a bit lightly. Stuff like that makes the car a daily pleasure. It's so quiet inside and the stereo has great sound on a long trip you can have a very relaxed conversation without noise.

I have yet to try the AMG racetrack functions - there are maps of many racetracks right in the car, complete with the ability to record steering throttle brake positions - I'd love to try it some day but I'm pretty far from Watkins Glen or Laguna Seca, not sure what courses are even in there - I saw Nordschleife map in there and that would be the ultimate but I'm in Canada.

I guess wireless Carplay might be something I could gain from getting a 2020 model. But I doubt I'd find a silver 2020 S63 with executive rear seating (great for taking a snooze). I do not need the magic sky control really, it's cool, but not needed. And If I got a 2020, I would probably not get the high end audio, even though I love the sound - it steals too much room in the cabin and the trunk.

I had one problem in the last 3 years - the horn failed. No big deal. It probably froze up in winter or something. I might need brake pads soon - that's about it. It's been trouble free.

I'm leaning towards just keeping it.

If it is the desire for a color change I would look into a wrap and call it a day. Mine is optioned almost identical to yours with the exception of the magic roof. They are great cars.

A wrap? wow - maybe that's what I could do. I suppose that would cost $5000.00 though, but maybe it's worth it if I can get something interesting that works. The wrap also would prevent rock chips and door dings, and we get a lot of people giving door dings and shopping cart dings around here.

Thanks for this extended warranty information - it's very helpful to me right now to see and compare the costs of extended warranty. It seems reasonable to me.

No problem, I see your location is in Canada, both polices are able to be used both sides of the border!

OP I’m in the service end of it. Fidelity is very good to work with. Get the Platinum plan for the most miles and time. It is nice knowing that most everything is covered should that expensive something fail.
