oil control valve, disconnect.

Decided to do this to my car. I won't go into the technical side of disconnecting the oil control valve. There is a lot of data regarding this on the other Mercedes vehicles, forums. There are also videos regarding this. I have come across no negative outcome from doing this. So, I decided to try this out. I have not come across anyone doing this to an S class. Mostly the other Mercedes models. There are many models that have this two-stage oil pump design with this solenoid. Took some pictures. Was very quick and easy. I put a rubber cap over the connector and over the solenoid connector, just to protect them both from the elements. Since the connection is pretty low. I also zip tied the wire harness down. to keep the harness from coming into contact with the main drive belt.

I just did this little mod early this morning. However, with the videos I have seen and all the documentation, it all seems to be good/positive. I will be putting some miles on the vehicle. Possibly finally getting the vehicle to the Dyno on Thursday. That will be another post, if it all works out. Some people have noticed many benefits from doing this. Quieter engine, more responsive engine, oil squirters under the pistons always working, etc. This will trip a blind code. However, it will not set a check engine light. Just overall better lubrication for the entire engine at all times.

Ok. Bad news. This mod DOES trip a hard code. It took a little while to set. I guess the other Mercedes models it does not set a hard code. Darn the luck. Putting vehicle back to how it was from the factory regarding the oil control solenoid valve. Sorry. Just had to try it, since the other owners of other Mercedes vehicles have had great luck with this. The programming must be different on a W222 S class.

250 miles on my SL63 since unplugging - it has not set any hard codes.

Are you sure it isn’t something else?

I wish my friend. I wish I would have taken a snapshot of the code. Basically, it was open circuit in oil control solenoid valve. Plugged it back in and code has not returned. No check engine light. The logic in a W222 S class M157 must be different. Plus, it took two trips to trip the check engine light. When I originally did this little mod. Nothing happened. No code no issues, car drove great. Went out to run an errand, the check engine light came on. Scanned for faults. One code for the oil control valve open circuit. All is back to normal now. Well darn the luck.

My vehicle is 2016 S63 4matic. United States car. I check for codes once every month, to keep the car in tip top shape. It is tuned and modded; however, I have never had any codes. Vehicle runs extremely strong. I do drive the car aggressively periodically. Love the car. Service the car at the Dealer only, except when I elect to do the modifications and things, I find out about on the internet. I wanted to do this mod, before I go to the dyno on Thursday. I will try and get that posted at a later date. Trying to video the runs.

I have a 2015 S63 Coupe. I unplugged my oil solenoid a few weeks ago now over 1k miles. No check engine code. Car drives fine and trans is much smoother. Have driven it with my tune and stock. Car feels better with my tune.

All I can say is that I feel it is the logic programmed into the vehicles. I had no issues either with my vehicle when I unplugged the oil control valve. It wasn't until I went to run an errand, is when the light tripped. I checked for codes and the only code was an open circuit for the oil control valve. I went back to stock, cleared the code and all is back to perfect. I even ran the car on the dyno today with some pulls up to 140-150 miles per hour. Absolutely no issues. I have decided to leave the plug, plugged in. I contacted Taso, and lord and behold, he made a video about the oil control valve, which I have posted on this thread. Just so people learn and draw their own conclusions.

Yay. He talks very briefly how he feels there may be a difference in the programs/logics of the different Mercedes models.

Part 3 is also out

Thanks for whichever forum member here (forgot name) bringing to his attention of the oil pump solenoid, he is one of my favourite youtubers on MB engines.
