What is "average" life of brake rotors on S63 Coupe

I know lots of variables here....but looking at a used S63 Coupe with about 30k mi....has new pads (but original rotors)....when should I expect to replace these? This is a CPO....so not sure why they didn't already do this?

And...anyone know just the cost for Rotors all around? Thx!!

Rotors can range from under a grand for 4 new replica rotors on ebay, all the way up to 7K for all 4 at the dealer. Girodisc makes a nice true 2 piece rotor for our cars for around 3100 bucks all around. For pads you will want ceramic pads, unless you don't mind a ton of brake dust from the OEM pads. I run the Powerstop Z26/Z23 pads on my car and they are great with no dust. For reference I swapped the pads on my car from OEM to Powerstop when the car had around 15K miles. I am now at 40K with about half the pad left so I expect to get around 45-50K out of the set. I will probably do either the Girodisc set up, or Maybe the Brembo units on my next brake job. I have found that rotors last around 2 pad cycles so you will probably need rotors on the next brake job you do. Brake jobs on these cars are pretty straight forward if you have a jack and some basic hand tools.

As said, all depends on how the car was driven. It's generally recommended to at least change the front rotors at the same time as the pads, but to know for sure you have to measure them. Front rotors typically have 2 mm of allowed wear, so to last for a second set of pads, you need to have at least 50% life left on the rotor before they reach minimum thickness.

As for replacement rotors, take a look at FCP Euro. They have lifetime replacement warranty. After you bought the first set from them, you'll send back the worn parts and get a store credit for the full purchase amount. They used to give cash refunds, but the policy was abused by a few black sheep, so now it's store credit only. Still a good deal if you go through a few sets for as long as you own the car. FWIW, with my lighter C63S Coupe and 37k miles I'm on my third set of pads and rotors in the front, third set of pads and second set of rotors in the rear. But I drove it like it's meant to be driven. For a car that's mostly seeing open highway miles, the brakes will last a lot longer. I snuck in before FCP changed their policy, so my current front rotors and pads were free as they still gave me a cash refund. Next time around I'll get store credit and have to go through one more set before I have a steady store credit for future sets.

Additional MB Warranty....

A bit off topic....for a 2019 CPO S63....I can get an additional 2 years of warranty for $5800 (so, roughly 3 years in total warranty)...is that reasonable for an 2 extra years?

Thanks again!!

I would hit up Trenton at Highline Autos. He is all over these forums. Back in August I purchased a 3 year 36K Fidelity policy from him for around 4800.00 I think. If you have a year of CPO than a 2yr/24K mile plan with him is going to be a lot less. I have not had to use mine but I have heard it is as good as MB from a coverage standpoint.

Fidelity With Platinum coverage is the only one to consider.

Mileage? I see 30K in the original post. For 3 years total extended warranty, we'd save you about $800 compared to what you have quoted above with our Fidelity Platinum coverage.

Your thread, you can ask about any topic you want

To answer your question, the CPO warranty is excellent if you prefer dealer services. The MB dealer in my area is large and always has loaner cars available, so I loved my CPO period for that reason. I even got a new S-class loaner from them, helped me realize that the W222 was the right choice for me. BUT...if you plan to keep your car for 5 or more years an aftermarket ELW is a more economical option. You'll probably get 4-5 years of coverage for the same as your 2 year extension on your CPO warranty. And you have a year's coverage under the CPO warranty to decide on the extra 2 years. There is a slightly better price to buy it right now, but I don't think the difference is really that large, and you can buy the extension from ANY MB dealer, not ust the one you're buying your car from.

CPO is marketed as some sort of inspection and reconditioning process that leads to more reliability, but that's not true. It's just a warranty, that's it. The inspection means nothing, and there is NO reconditioning incolved...FYI.

Purchased a 2020 S63 with 30,000 miles in September with an extended warranty for 5 years/60,000 for around $5,000.

Where was that warranty from for $5? Seems like a very reasonable price for 5 extra years and 60k mileage...Thx

I'm having the power stops put on in the morning. I've got them on the rears and like everyone else said, they are excellent with almost zero brake dust.
