2019 S63E Front Camera Lens cracked
Hi:
The lense on the front camera of my 2019 S63E is cracked.
MB wants $1500 for a new camera and is about $1000 to remove the font bumper cover to install the new camera.
You can buy replacement camera on line for about $100.
After months of deciding what to do, I got the idea to grind out the lens on the front camera, and extract the lens from a $100 on line donor camera (already done this), and put this lens on the front camera.
No guarantee the replacement lens will focus the image properly, and I am not sure how I will "glue" the new lens in.
I dont have much to lose since the current image is pretty blurry due to the crack.
But I wanted to ask the forum for opinion and other ideas.
Even if my plan fails, I can always just have the camera replaced at MB.

I figured since MB quoted over 4hrs labor, I thought it would take me twice as long having never done it on this car.
There is so much stuff buried in the bumper cover.
The $100 camera is from ebay, probably a Chinese brand. I just bought it for the lens.
But I did also buy a used OEM camera for $130 as a back up.

If you are referring to the 360 camera, it is actually in the grill, not the bumper. You can have the grill off in about 20 minutes with some simple tools. I removed my grill to install laser jammers in the front of my car and it came off very easily. I would start by removing the grill and just swapping the camera to see if it works before taking the cameras apart. I don't think the camera needs to be programmed as it is a pretty simple analog camera.

Is the lens made of glass or plastic? If it's plastic, you might be able to use something like this to fix the crack: Window maker

The lens is plastic but its also destroyed by the crack and its been "road sand blasted" cause its in the front.
I can only find a few tabs on the inside bottom of the grill to try and remove it, I am sure there are other tabs I cant see.
The car in this video is my exact car. Taking off the bumper cover doesnt look that bad, at least not the 4 hours Mercedes quoted.
