Would You Buy This Car???

A friend of mine is considering buying a 2020 S63 sedan.
$91K, but the car has less than 11K miles on the odometer.

White Magno exterior, nut brown interior. Night package exterior trim
Has HUD, night vision, and all the regular features, but no 3D or Magic sky roof.
He got a PPI with a clean bill of health.

Thoughts???

Price seems very high as these do not retain value well. If you like music even a little bit, you want the upgraded 3D/4D audio system.

Lot of $$$. That said; rare car with low miles. It needs to be perfect.

Value has to work for the buyer.

He said he's not into music so 3D has no value.
Value retention is interesting because one could argue the opposite based on this price. And who knows where values go from here because of the 4+ year gap in S63 production and that the W223 S63 is riddled with problems. If I'm not mistaken, they are taking a year off production for the facelifted S63. I might be wrong about the year off, but I don't think it's been revealed yet.

The seller can ask a million dollars for it.

Value of the car is what a willing buyer will pay for it.

For that money (if only I had it!) I would have a very low miles S-65.

Agreed about the 223 S63 + Hybrid games.

Exactly. Had that conversation yesterday with a friend who is shopping for a car and can not understand the premium for the wagons (on the used market).

I told him the same thing. "Who cares what's it worth if it's worth it to you?" When I worked in the mortgage biz people asked this question all the time. Appraisers can arrive at any figure they want, but they aren;t the one paying the mortgage. And as it relates to buying cars for personal use; I think it's fools gold to get caught up thinking the way a used car dealer thinks.

He's flying up to buy it tomorrow, we'll see what happens.

He is paying for the low mileage, and presumably the condition. I would be really worried about all of the little rubber and plastic bits under the hood as they do get brittle with age and sitting. Also, I would probably do the OVS units as a precaution and even try to work that maintenance into the price. If it is the right car though, and it makes them happy then I say go for it. As to the value, I am not sure what is going to happen with this market. There are only 7 2020 S63 sedans with under 30K miles available across the country right now which is not a lot. I would also highly suggest that they get an aftermarket warranty for the car. If you think about it, where else can you get a car of this caliber with 600+ HP and a vault like ride for under 100K. 2020 was also the last year of a true big body V8 AMG sedan without all the battery nonsense. I think well sorted cars with documented maintenance still hold value, especially AMG variants as they are special and limited.

Great points. This car has only had the oil changed once, according to the Carfax. I told him to try to get a VMI to see if anything else has been done to the car. We had the talk about gaskets, and how ther are additives in oil that "condition" the gaskets and seals, but only when the car is running. And how all those little fiddly bits are not immune to cracking while the car is sitting in storeage. I think he finds it worth it to go for it. He wasn;t aware of the warranty options. Unfortuntely the car is at a Land Rover dealershiop so it can't be CPO'd. I told him to ask for a 5 year warranty and not settle for anything less than a 2 year aftermarket warrany, but be sure it covers seals and gaskets. I think he'll get all excited and leave his brain at the airport and sign on the dotted line. That Magno paint is another thing to be concerned about, it looks good but difficult to repair.

Ya, I am not a fan of the matte colors as they are impossible to fix, even rock chips. I would rather get a gloss color and then PPF wrap it with a matte film if I wanted that look. Keep us posted on the details when you hear more.

Is it high? Yes. Do we all know it is kind of special? Yes. Sounds like an amazing car.

As Superpop already mentioned, the higher value is in the low mileage of a rare car. I believe it’s worth it, and put my money where my mouth is when I paid $85k for my 2019 S63 with 5k miles in January this year. One owner, perfect condition, meticulously maintained including new Michelin tires, $185k MSRP. New car experience for $100k off, for the best end of an era pure gas V8 AMG luxury cruiser (shy of an S65 of course, which will cost way more in similar condition)

New E-Class wagons are readily available should he wish for one. Sadly not with the engine I'd wish for.

Yeah...your car is amazing, and almost twins to the car he's considering: https://www.landroverenglewood.com/i...g8jb2la519986/
I'm jealous of both of you for having the "flowing lines" interior trim

Looks like a nice car. Not wild about the Hankook tires and hopefully the front brake calipers are just dirty, otherwise it looks like they may need a refinish. Amazing that it got its first oil change 5 years after original purchase, not sure how I feel about that. I just don't understand spending 185K plus taxes and fees, probably over 200K, to drive a car 9000 miles. I get they got some back on the sale, but damn, that is a lot of money for 9K miles.

Hankook tires are a red flag that says "I may look like I can afford this car, but I can't". Same with the 5 year (!) oil change interval.

Hard pass

The wood trim is beautiful. I got a good laugh at the plastic still being on the shifter. It is supposed to get peeled off with the PDI. It isn't yellow so will still peel off cleanly.

We don't know the back story. Fifty cents in a bet says this car lived in the garage at the third or fourth home.... Grandpa gets sick... Or priorities change.

Either way... Beautiful car that lived inside. Wrong motor and brakes for me. *wink

Beautiful car with BEST engine and great brakes. Yeah, CCb's would be better for sure.

Anyway, he bought it.

Congrats to your buddy. I am sure he will love it. I still love mine after several repairs and a few sets of tires and brakes.

When I was looking about a year ago for a 7 year old used S63 after mine was totaled, I wouldn't even consider a car without the 3D Burmester where the tweeters roll open and closed. It's such a show when it happens, it's priceless, to me at least. Someone above wrote this "and that the W223 S63 is riddled with problems."... our 2025 has been flawless, nothing has gone wrong with it. Yet. We love it, though I loved my W222 more.

Good to hear from you Steve!! That was me that mentioned the problems with the W223 S63. A couple months ago there were 2 guys on the forum who had buybacks and were discussing what led up the buyback and how MBUSA handled it. When I checked Carfax for used W223 S63's available, close to 40% that were available were lemon-lawed cars. As of today, 24 of the 95 available nationwide are branded title cars, lemon lawed.

But you deserve to have a fantastic experience with your new ride. Just because it happened to someone else doesn't mean you'll have the same fate. ENJOY!!!

Wow, I can't believe that! That's horrible. Ughhhh... so many buybacks. Never heard of such a thing. My buddy just bought a 2026 S63 and he loves his too... matte black with black interior.
Well, hopefully ours will be reliable long term since... it's our last car, and I'm only 65. It's gorgeous too, to me.
