I immediatly swerve to the next lane (luckily no one there). My car body rolls all the way down. This was almost a full turn of the wheel at 60. Scared that there might be a person in the lane i am going in, I immediatly swerve back.
It's a bad idea to go swerving into another lane if you don't know whether or not another car is there. If there is, then you will hit that car and get charged for causing the crash, while the driver that started it will just drive on, completely oblivious to what she did, since you were nice enough to avoid her. If there's gonna be a collision, it should be her hitting you, and not you hitting someone else.

similar situation happened to me the other day, driving to work at 5:30 am... this other car just decides to change a lane w/o signalling nor checking so I slam on the brakes ---> instant BAS application plus horn (ever notice that if your hands are just *resting* even on the edges of the horn pad, it would sound when BAS works, because of the effect of the full braking force?)
luckily there was nobody behind me... and that other driver probably got just an equal scare as i did.
Doing about 45 mph on a city street, the car next to me rather abruptly began changing lanes into my lane.
By the time I noticed, the front bumper crossed the lane markings and came to within 6" of my driver's side door.
My reaction was an involuntary 1/2 steering wheel rotation away from the intruding car next door ... toward the curb / sidewalk / street lights.
The curb was probably only 3 feet away from my outside wheels.
The driver next to me realized his error, went back into his own lane.
In the same split second I was able to straighten out my car with out hitting the curb with my tires or anything else with my bumper.
The road was cold (2 degrees celcuis / say 36 degrees ferenheiht) and damp because it had been sprinkeling all day.
This all happened in say 1 1/2 seconds.
ESP played a part I am sure (I had no time to notice flashing lights) in how sure footedly the car went exactly where I steered. Almost no muss or fuss.
It was quite amazing.
The car next to me slowed, changed lanes behind me and turned right onto another street.
I tried to emmulate the same manuver in the Jeep in a parking lot later that day. Absolutly no compairison in responciveness or control.
Any other car than MB (or equivelent ESP equiped car) ... I would have been involved in an accedent.

. Gotta becareful on the freeways. People who dont signal when changes lanes on a freeway should be shot in the head.
