Cuzco, quick question if you don’t mind. I put my order in for just a few weeks after yours. My ship is supposed to hit Long Beach (I’m in Northern California) around 10/10. My salesperson told me that it is possible that MBZ will hold the 2020’s until they are officially released which could delay things. Have you heard anything about that? I’m going to post this in the main forum as well. Thanks

Yes I was also told that there could be a slight delay until the 2020's are officially released. However my dealer currently has two 2020's on the showroom floor so I would guess that there will be no delay for that reason. The problem I believe for me anyway will be the fact that my port of entry Brunswick Georgia is closed due to the tipping over of the Golden Ray transport ship which is blocking the entry into the port. Port could be closed for another two or three weeks according to some news reports.
I received a 2019 G63 three months ago and I remember it left Germany, then stopped at Baltimore and then Bruswick where mine was unloaded. After Brunswick it went south through the Panama Canal and on onto LA.
I will post any update that I receive.

Thank you for the info. I am sorry about the wait on yours. My ship is supposed to port in Georgia on the way to Long Beach. I wonder what they do when they have to skip a port. It has to have huge ripple effects on their entire worldwide schedule. Good luck!

Cuzco, did your dealership have 2020 GT63’s on the floor? I have seen the 2020 GT 53’s for sale (and passed California’s air quality regs) but not one 2020 63 or 63s anywhere in the US yet. Thanks

Yes they had one but it is now sold. Tuesday evening my salesman called to tell me my car had arrived at the Brunswick port that afternoon and I should expect delivery in less than 2 weeks.

What I was told was 2020's in stock turns out they were 2019's that they had.
My dealership called this afternoon to tell me that although my car arrived at the Brunswick port on September 26 Mercedes will not be releasing it until around November 1. Not real happy about it sitting there for 6 weeks. I assume that it is sitting outside in the sun and salt air. That's life I suppose.

Bummer. That makes sense though after checking with my salesperson. He was surprised when I told him that 2020 63's came and went already. He had researched it and to date, no 2020 63's have been sold. I did get my final MSRP and VIN but that is it. Hopefully the November 1st date your dealership told you was accurate. My salesperson also called MBZ corp distribution yesterday and was told there was not a firm release date yet. They told him "mid-fall." It is a little annoying that MBZ will take custom orders for 2020's but not release them after they get to the VPC. I guess that how things work though! Thankfully these are first world problems. Best of luck!

What is confusing to me is that my dealer has a 2020 GT53 on the showroom floor right now. Doesn't make any sense to me.

The 2020 53's were released some time ago and are for sale all over. It's the 63's that were not.

My 63 is supposed to get to the VPC late tomorrow or Friday. I will let you know if I hear anything. I did check the California Air Quality site and only the 2020 53’s have passed. Only the 2019 63(s) cert is up. I found the site thru another post as a way to see if at least the regulatory steps have been taken to release the car.
When I ordered my S63 I had keys in hand just a few days after it got off the boat. I don’t think that will be the case this time.

You are correct. Yesterday my dealer said the hold up was the 63's were awaiting EPA approval.

Thanks for the info. Ugh, bureaucratic red tape! I was reading the forum about when this happened to other AMG models in the past. It seems like the LONG waits were with new models, not just a new model year. I believe the 19 vs 20 63 is the same car (except the AMG sport exhaust is now standard and has new roof options.) I guess I will have to be an adult and be patient which is no fun.
I found the search engine for the EPA. Just as you mentioned, only the 2020 53's have passed. https://iaspub.epa.gov/otaqpub/pubse...sp?pubmodule=1

I spoke to my SA today and he said that he was surprised that you were even given an aprox date of 11/1 by the dealership. He said that he typically does not find out a release date until it is public. I would assume MBZ does not want to give out dates ahead of time to discourage customers from waiting to buy the next model year if there is stock available. I will let you know if I find anything else out. It was easier to be patient when my car was on the ship and not at the VPC.
If anyone in the know gets any info please pass it along.
