HID XENON Conversion Upgrade

I just installed some HID Conversion 8000k on my 2005 E500 and they fit perfect, and I did not even have to re-program the ECU. Just wanting to inform anyone that is thinking about doing the upgrade. I am not sure if this will be the same for everyone, but for me it was preety simple. Take out the old bulbs, put the new Xenon bulbs in, run some cables for the balster and the ignitor, and turn on the lights, they flickered for awhile and came on. Here are some pics.

Good Job!

Can you give more specifics on the kit you used and the price? How about a pic of the install?

Thanks.

While this may be a decent solution for you, its highly illegal. The projector does not have the correct beam pattern for Xenon HID lights and you risk blinding other drivers in the oncoming direction.

PLEASE TAKE THEM OUT UNTIL YOU GET THE RIGHT PROJECTORS- as mentioned above, this will not have the right pattern, and will blind everyone on the road. This is becoming an increasing problem that really bothers me and everyone else.. please do it the right way and replace the entire assembly ($$ but has auto leveling) or get new projectors retrofitted. Steve should be able to do it.

I don't think retrofitting the whole lamp assembly will automatically get you auto levelers. There are sensors on both axle that needs to be added as well. I think most people just install the lamp assembly and manually adjust the aim so it doesn't blind other people.

i've found that installing aftermarket xenons in factory projectors is fairly safe in terms of maintaining proper beam cutoff. The problem is when you install them in reflector housings.

Just make sure you get a "rebased" Osram or Philips D2S bulb, not a cheapo asian-made molded base with wire pigtails.

But if you want the best light you really have to install factory bixenons... I convinced my dealer and they installed them in even though originally they said you can't upgrade.

the projector housing itself is different - designed for halogen bulb instead. I ran into this problem myself on a conversion (not my E), has to do with the position of the bulb itself. The light bleeds out beyond the cutoff, causing light to bleed out and blind people in front.

Just make sure that you have a very sharp cutoff, and not a gradual fade on your light pattern. If its a sharp cutoff, you are fine. Otherwise you will be blinding everyone.

Thumbs down

The purple color will be acting as a homing device for police to give you tickets. I would recommand bulbs no higher than 5100 kelvin.

Look at the amount of glare you're emitting with your aftermarket HID kit compared to the stock HID setup. All that light wasted as it blinds oncoming traffic rather than being projected onto the road. Expect a lot of people high beaming you.

Yep, putting a xenon kit (bulb & ballast) into hagolen headlight would cause too much glare, and make it hard for drivers in front of you. Halogen and xenon projector have different focal point, you shouldn't really use one for another.

That's why I went the extreme way and put the entire 2005 Lexus LS430 projector in my car, get best light in the world (2003 - earlier LS has reflector headlight).

Will probably do the same w/ my W211. I found the 90mm Hella projector used in Mercedes is not up to par w/ ones from other car (Acura, Honda S2000, Lexus, Audi).

Ok, been doing a bit of research on converting to Xenon... I have come to the conclusion, as in this thread, that I will need new projectors. Question: Where can I get these projectors? I tried the dealer, and he wanted to sell me the entire Xenon kit... I just need to projectors to go with a Hella kit... any help is greatly appreciated..

Thanks

Nevermind, I'm going to go ahead and buy the OEM lights and have them installed... price be damned.

I have one for sale, in almost new condition. It's OEM xenon from the E500. No scratch, no broken tab, came with all bulb & ballast. In box.

Probably cost less than dealer an arm and a leg

Do you still have the HID headlight assembly unit? It is a plug and play version right?
