Selling my E55 amg due to a rust explosion.
I've decided to sell one of my favorite cars of all time due to the body bubble rust which has occurred exponentially.
It would cost over $6500.00 to fix.
What is with these cars and rust?
I read somewhere Benz never got the water based paint right during those years.
I live in Canada and they salt the roads more than McDonalds food.
I'll try to find another with a great bod.
It'll be tough.

Hi ya hyperion667!
Finding a replacement will be difficult around these parts.
I was quite aware of the rust situation in the fall but now it's unacceptable. I went looking for another E55 and there was one in Vancouver with less than 30K-kilometers in awesome shape-according to the pics. The Fella wanted $20 Grand for it! NO.
There were very few others in western Canada that had the same affliction.
@kowalkski....What is the reason for the terrible rust?

factory skimped on rust protection
when factory assembles a body, they dip the body several steps in different baths for rust protection.
some stupeed accountant manager counting beans came up with the brilliant idea, if we skimp on dipping every body we'll save money on rust protection.
what happened, MB had to recall most cars for rust treatment, replacing damaged panels and then re-paint all cars.
I think that bean accountant who came up with this brilliant idea was shot in the head by the top boss when books showed massive loss for MB
cars sold in countries with ruff winter climates are affected badly, cars sold in middle east might not suffer the same problems as there are no ruff winter climates

Thank You. I am a bit wiser.
But...skimping on rust protection by Benz? Unacceptable.
Years back I bought my Dads 1986 Audi 5000 Quattro after 3 years of his ownership.
I loved that car.
I had it for another 3 years.
The car is still around with almost zero rust.
They used double sided galvanized steel and concerned rust proofing
Amazing.
I am disappointed in the M.B marque..

Hey Hello!
Hope everything is good with you.
NO.
I don't want the hassle. I really don't.
I love the car but I don't want to be buried in it.
If it was an 84-85 Audi Ur Quattro coupe...yes I would.
I don't wish to spend too much money. Can't afford big dollars anyways but I can give an honest price.
Come back to O.T my Friend..miss ya!

what's an Audi 5000 Quattro 1986?
don't think i've seen a 5000 car?
in the 80's in europe they were branded Audi 80 - 90 - 100 - 200 (Turbo luxury model) - Ur Quattro coupe.
in the beginning of the 90's they got their first V-ACHT car = Audi V8

A sublime car.
They were" branded" 80-90-100-200 in the beginning of the 90's in N.A.
Prior to that it was -4000-5000-coupe-coupe quattro.
You probably know this already just forgot.
Happens.

honestly i never heard of 4-5000 models.
they must have been labeled only for NA market?
back in the 80's Audi cars self started causing accidents in NA, market for Audi cars gone to hell.
do you know for how many years Audi went A.W.O.L from NA market?

Where are you located?
Audi experience the -UNINTENDED ACCELERATION- Fiasco in 1987 with people stating that
"they stepped on the Brake as hard as they could yet the car accelerated!"
This is utter B.S and is due to DRIVER ERROR!!!. There isn't a vehicle made where the engine can over-power the Brakes.
Damn show- 60 Minutes- did a show on the Audi and almost destroyed Audi in N.A!
Sales declined as fast as they say the cars accelerated.
Audi then brought out the "Shift Lock" where you had to depress the Brake pedal to put the car in gear. All cars have this today.
It was never proven under testing -WITHOUT MODIFYING THE SYSTEM-
Audi should have sued 60 Minutes!
I was more than passionate about Audi in the 80's. I was their Champion and followed everything about them and also I'd go over to talk to salemen and Managers.
We knew each other well.
Hell, I had a 1984 Ur Quattro Coupe too!
Audi almost left the N.A Market along with Porsche. I remember when the Dealer had Volkswagon-Audi-Porsche all in the same building and lot.
After that scare the separated.
From what I can remember, sales started to increase when the A Models started coming out and the V8.

i'm in europe
somethin similiar happened to MB and their first introduction of the A-class back in the late 90's.
there was a car magazine testing road stability on every new car, doing an elk (moose) test.
you see a moose on the road and then you have to sverve your steering wheel, in the test review A-class flipped and turned over coz if it's misplaced body weight.
this was a massive scandal for MB being a safe car, MB blamed this car magazine causing bad publicity for MB cars, it turned out MB designed a flaw with the first A-class in the late 90's.
MB had to recall all first version A-class to implement ESP in their safety system.
let's not fogget about rust problems at the same time, these cars were also real rustbuckets like the w210!
