My dealer just called to ask if I wanted the frt. license brkt. installed. Ohio is a two plate state but some people with sports cars take the chance and don't install it. I assume there are holes to be drilled. Does anyone have a picture with one installed. Thanks,
If you live in a two plate state you will be ticketed if only one plate----and yes holes are drilled in the bumper for he front plate holder----however as you know FL is a one plate state and I would recommend you leave the front plate holder on the bumper if and when to register in FL----FTP!!
Thanks for mentioning that mount. Since I have a customized front camera installed, I think I'll take my chance to not have a front plate. Even with the mount, the plate would still cover my front camera Any suggestions?
Once upon a time, on the return leg of a 5000 mile road trip, I was stopped by a State Trooper for no front plate, and I asked him, "Why is it such a big deal?". Trooper Diaz then explained to me that it provided him "probable cause" to pull a car over. He told me that he then runs the driver for warrants, smells for alcohol or marijuana, judges if the driver or passenger(s) are high on illegal drugs, which then gives him additional probable cause to search the car for illegal weapons, drugs, or contraband. He intimated he was quite successful following this model.
FWIW, he instigated the stop in a confrontational mode, then dropped down into a back-and-forth mode, then into a conversation and we parted rather amiably. I learned quite a bit with that one traffic stop.
And I installed the front plate as soon as I returned home.

You can still mount it lower than I did; just below the camera. The setting is adjustable. I just preferred it to be as flush against the grill as possible so this was the best position for me.

Looking at the pictures of your plate, I don't see much space under. I measured against the grill using my own plate, and sadly it wouldn't fit straight-up. The only way is to tilt it, which looks quite awful.

I think you misunderstood. The license plate would be straight. If you look at the attached image, you see that there is a 1" long metal piece that connects the bumper and license plate mounts. By loosening the screws, the license plate moves forward/down to make space for the camera and clear the lower lip.
Less ideal but there aren't a lot of options if you need a plate mounted. There is of course the ugly tow hook mount where the the license plate sits on one side over the tow hook cover.
Or you could move the camera into the grill or off-center.
The problem I am seeing here is that the camera isn't facing exactly straight front, but rather facing a little downward to detect any curb. Even if the plate is mounted an inch away from the grill, it would still kind of block the camera view. Another option is like what you suggested, move the camera to the side, but that would require another cut on the grill, as well as having an angular image since the grill isn't flat. Anyways, thanks for the tip. I guess I'll buy the mount and give a try. Worst case, I'd install the plate off center.

You maybe overthinking this. Cameras are wide-angle and the install as suggested shouldn't impede any field of view.
Try the mount; it's $20 purchase at most...
Ordered one today. Don't want to take a chance without a front plate. Thought I might be able to modify the Vette Brkt. but couldn't make it fit. Similar contour but not close enough.

I think you will like it. It' very minimalist and flush with the lower bumper grill.
Just FYI, I just used 2 long stainless machines screws with a large washer (1" or so) assemble all without the license plate and then just push the washers through the grill. Just tighten and you are done. The washers become the back plate.
Took 20 minutes of which most time was spent to replace the factory screws with stainless steel ones. Zero rust after 2+ years.
This is required if bad weather is involved otherwise it will rust.
Well, I rec'd the brkt. from Amazon but didn't care for the fit. So I took the backing that I used on my Vette and made it fit the SL. I had already installed 4 threaded inserts to attach the plate with stainless machine screws. I had my dealer order me a second grille mtg. brkt. (one came with the car) that cost $27 but should be $2 (see 1st pic). The backing contours the grille perfectly and looks much better than the stock one, and if I ever sell the car it can easily be removed.
I just fastened the front license plate using the Mercedes supplied plastic piece and no drilling in the bumper. I used 3- 1/4"x 2" round head stainless screws, fender washer, lock washer and nut. I inserted the assembled screw in the plastic license backer with the washers and nut through the grill. It took some effort to get the fender washer through the grill, but it worked quite well i think.
NV is a two plate state but does not require a front plate if the vehicle came fm the manufacturer w/o provisions to hang one. My CPO came fm NC, a one plate state, so I don't run a front quite legally.
Hi Greg, I know this post is a little dated, but I was wondering if you had the actual part number for the little bracket that attaches to the grill...
I'm in NY and front plates are required to pass inspection. We just got the car and it doesn't have a front plate mount so we're looking for options. These 'clips' and bracket seem to be a solid choice to mount a plate to the lower grill opposed to nuts and bolts. Just can't seem to find a part number or where to get them.
it looks like GKGEIGER bought extra clips from a Mercedes dealer back in 2015 (based on his previous post in this thread) but I don't know how to contact him directly to see if he has a part number or what exactly he purchased.
