Head-Up Display currently not available across all 2017 W205 C-class models
There have been a few posts on this, but wanted to share from my salesperson today, it is currently not possible to select option code 463, Head-Up Display, in Netstar--see attached. My understanding is a Japanese or Chinese supplier issue is the reason, and there's no ETA on resolution. I'm hoping the issue gets resolved so this option can be added to my current order scheduled for Sept. 2016 production (2017 C63 S coupe). I would be okay if that means a further production delay, but I'm concerned the option cannot even be added at this point in time. Any other experiences or insight on this HUD issue?

Meh. I have it and it's a cool gizmo for the first few weeks. Now I toggle it off most of the time because the display is huuuuge and it annoys me. I wouldn't hold up a build for it, but that's just me.

I cant understand the fascination with HUD. I left it out from my build cause it was expensive, circa £900 for what it does and I hate anything to be in my line of sight. If it was £200 or came bundled with one of the packages I chose, then maybe but chances are that it I will always leave it switched off.
360° camera is a more useful option.

My wife has HUD on her 2014 328i...big deal...I just don't get the attraction either. Not only is it an expensive option, the front windshield is more expensive come replacement time...that and you see the big ugly cut-out on the dash from the outside.
As for the people that say it helps with NAV, are you kidding me? Between the main center display and the woman's voice telling you to take the turn, you actually need yet another source on the windshield as well?

I have had it on my past two cars and get a lot of use from it. I was especially looking forward to the special AMG content version on the C63 coupe with the gear indicator, RPMs, etc. since I plan to enjoy a few track days.

Yeah the HUD option is delayed indefinitely until the end of the year apparently, due to the supplier's warehouse being damaged. It was initially delayed until August, but it has been extended. It will probably be available to order towards the end of the year, and this was discussed by a few others on the forum as well.

The only reason I would wait is if it had the speed limit/traffic sign function, but based on what ive read and the various videos released by MBUSA, it doesn't have that feature.

I have to say, the HUD was along with the ILD LED's one of the main reasons for getting the S205 over the CLA at the time..
Due to my height, my favored steering wheel position and seat position the top of the speedo is obscured (as are the indicator lights and parking proximity strip).. so the HUD speed diplay is awesome.
I always have my phone on the center binnacle display, and Navi on the 8inch center screen... with the radio on behind the NAV....
I have to say i love it.... having the speed right there has avoided me at least 1 ticket on the highway.. zero tolerance...
I hope my future cars have gretaer HUD info, (gear, rpm, oil temp, boost... as options.. )

It does with the Drivers Assistance package. It displays a little speed limit sign graphic, alongside your current speed and the setting for your adaptive cruise if it's on, and turn by turn if navi is active. In dual speed zones (school) it displays a second speed limit sign. No other signs though.
I will have to check out a c class when I go to the dealer next to confirm. If so, that's awesome.
Thanks for the info!
EDIT: Just read the description for the drivers assistance package, and it does say traffic sign assist.

I posted this issue before, blame the last earthquake in Japan. I had the HUD in my options list due to my shortsighted vision, I can't clearly read anything in the dashboard (w/o googles), but the little bit more of distance to the front glass was, to my eyes, enough to focus... But no way I'm waiting more than 6 months for this, or any other bit after having had a very basic equipped C450 loaner for a weekend, oh boy, loved it!

So, there is no reason for these to be tied to Drivers Assistance Package, just Command. I'm wondering if anyone without drivers assistance in North America still can see speed limit signs in the HUD? My guess is not, but that's really just a bundling thing at this point, as there is nothing else the car needs to do it.

No speed limit signs
I do not have these options. I have all the Driver Assist options, but my C300 is a 2015. I had thought that this was my last car, but here is another reason to trade up in a few years (meaning 6-8 years). I already lust after the Intelligent Lighting System (the multi-pixel lights). Unfortunately, although there is nothing wrong with me now that affects my driving, I have to face the fact that in 6-8 years, it is 50-50 whether I will still be driving.

All the MB literature/videos say that traffic sign assist uses the cameras to detect signs, which makes sense that it is bundled with the drivers assistance package (and needs to use those cameras). But in the North American manual (and based on my experience as well) it does not use the camera, and only uses the map data. It also, as noted, only does speed limits not other signs from the other literature about traffic sign assist.

When dynamic speed limits are shown above the road they are picked up by the camera also. It can even detect different signs under the speed limit signs.
When signs are not detected for a while, the system seems to fall back on data from the navi.
The recognition is limited to speed limits and signs that its not allowed to overtake.
I must say i am from the Netherlands so in North America the behavior might be different.
I love the HUD b.t.w.

Gerrit

In my experience the camera is definetely being used to detect signs.

It might be related to the shape of the speed signs. In Europe the signs are round, white with a red band around it. The US ones are rectangular and white with a mini black band (i believe). I guess they are harder to recognize.

I really hope they get the issue resolved so I can get the HUD added to my order. If others still have this option confirmed in their Netstar builds scheduled for September production or later, I'm wondering if there's any workaround or escalation I can do via my dealership to get it added to mine, since they accidentally left it off the original build they input into the system.
