Give the car a once over;
Air filter
Oil & filter
Plugs
Compression test
Trans in good shape
Tyres in good shape
Tyre pressures to spec
Quality fuel (that you will use all the time)
Clean the Engine bay and vehicle incl undercarriage...
Reasons for the above is dyno time is expensive and you don't want to be wasting that time dealing with minor issues or stryggling to ID small issues cos the vehicle is filthy etc.
Bear in mind the ONLY info that matters is the before and after for your car with those correction factors at tthat time.. ie thats the only real comparator..
And go in with low expectataions of the increase.. you'll eiether meet or exceed them then which always feels better than beleiveing some BS no. and coming out poorer and disappointed..

Unless your tuning and burning new ECU parameters a smartphone can replace a Dynamometer run. With dynamometers being very susceptible to a wide range of variables which range to percentages wider than a computer based App so theoretically a cell phone can be a better way for owners to run their own tests for < $20

HP from an app?
I'm officially an old guy, so I can say - way back when, we used a pencil and paper. If you know what the car weighs and it's trap speed in the 1/4, I can tell you how much HP it's putting out. The formula was/is (.00426 * MPH) ^3 * Weight - but that's not RWHP. Is the formula accurate? I can say this - according to the current R&T, a BMW M3 weighs 3540 pounds and has a trap speed of 114.9 MPH. According to the formula it makes 415 HP. According to BMW it makes 406.
How does that translate to the phone app? Our phone knows when we started moving, when we've traveled a quarter mile, and our trap speed at the end of that quarter mile. And it has a calculator.
Now some folks may say "that doesn't take CD or elevation into consideration". And that's true. But on the other hand, a chassis dyno doesn't know how tight the straps are, how much air is in the tires, whether it's the first or the fifteenth run (engine heat), how close the fan is to the car (more engine heat), and whether I slipped the shop foreman some cash.
In typical old guy form, I'll finish this with a story. I used to know a guy named Keith Holloway who could tell how much HP a car made by just looking at it. His answer was typically, "Less than mine, and for $100 I can prove it to you." Keith drove a big block Chevelle back when we used to think we knew what fast was.

Built a VVTI 1JZ MX8. 355WHP on stock turbo.
Presently hooking up an 8-6 with a Altezza Beams w ITB's / 6speed.
Couldn't resist the wail of a 4cyl. at 8-9000 rpm and solid axle.
