That looks to me like bigger wattage bulbs were used.
Than I am not impress with plastics quality on W211.
Our 2008 model has several plastic parts removed from +- 25 years old models.

Mine looked the same way when I removed them. It's MB using cheap plastic/parts on the car.
The wiring in the headlights is also super cheap for some reason. I love Mercs but there are MANY things that they definitely go cheap on as opposed to other manufactures that don't cost nearly as much.

Picked up the little insert for the ash tray.
Part number: 211-683-00-51
Makes the little cubby in the front a tad larger for things. I don't smoke so having a useless ashtray in the car is dumb. Think I paid $9.50 shipped from online.

$4.07 at MB dealer (plus shipping, but I always find something else to order)
http://www.mboemparts.com/oe-mercedes-benz/2116830051
How do you like that insert? I could use one with coin and pen slots.

I was going to order from that site until the total came up to $19 shipped for it...lol The site I ordered mine from was less than $10 shipped so I figured why not. The local dealer wanted $13-14 for it which I thought was silly since I would have to drive to them to pick it up.
The little insert is nice. Fits perfectly and opens up that space to put more stuff. If you love throwing change in there then you are probably best keeping the cig tray but if you plan on putting anything other than that in there, I think the little rubber insert is cool. Cheap mod to gain a little bit of storage room. I wonder why the car didn't come with this by default with the option of adding a cig tray. Seems backwards on how they did it.

Ordered 2 of those trays. Had to order clock spring for my SL, so the 2 trays added less than $10 to the order.
Why they don't come standard? Most of Europeans are still heavy smokers.

FINALLY got around to drilling the hole for the damn rear view camera.
It's not bolted down nor is the small gasket there yet but I think it's in a great spot. I was debating whether to put it on the driver side and part of me still thinks I should have but it's ok. I looked up many pictures and it seems that's where MB puts some of their cameras so it looks OEM.
If I knew someone that could paint, I would actually paint the entire housing of the camera to match the car and you wouldn't see anything but the black lens.
Sorry for the cramped *** pictures.. I'm at the end of the garage door and there isn't much room, plus it's cold outside. This weekend I should get some better pictures.
Getting my replacement ballast this weekend so I should have the entire car done finally.

Looks good , ....... but if you know how to drive you do not need a rear view camera.
RELAX, ................. just kidding of course.

I can't stand badging, so I removed it...lol
I'll get a further away shot, when I put the car out of the garage and once I get a new license plate frame tomorrow.
So much cleaner in the back now.

Love it! Looks so much better!
It's amazing how manufactures brand the car and slap every badge on it known to man. My damn STi has "STi" everywhere which is annoying to me, and took some time to get rid of some of them. My friend's M5 has "M5" front/back/sides..etc.
At least MB only puts it on the back and not sides and front. So once removed from the back most people have no clue what model or class it is besides the fact that it's a Merc.

Added some oem wheel locks.
Fit is identical to stock lug, and so is the finish. They come in a nice little case with the key, that is wrapped in plastic as to not scratch the wheels.
Nice, a little pricey but oem. I saw that mcgard makes the locks and has the same version but half the price but the end caps is chrome for some reason, I would have gone that route but it would have looked odd having one lug nut being chrome..lol
Oh well, another mod to the car unnoticed to everyone but me..hahah

New windshield installed on my '06 CDI. Had a star shaped crack just below the driver's view and plenty of chips. A local window shop did the work using an MB windshield. The MB windshield was about $40 more than the aftermarket. All is working well, and excellent job. I watched the whole process, took about 35 minutes. Total price: $608.

Wow, I am speechless. What labor rate do they have if it only took 35 Minutes and where did they buy this gold plated windshield?

That price is with the OEM windshield. His original aftermarket windshield price was over $900 before 50% off for the part and labor. Quite a markup.

Every time I've destroyed/cracked/chipped windshields, I call insurance and it only costs me $100 every time to completely replace with an OEM windshield. They even come to my house.

That is insane.
I have a buddy who owns a glass shop and I just asked him what he thinks it should cost. He says he can get an aftermarket windshield for $280.00, the Sekurit windshield from Germany for 400.00.
I am in CA, where I believe that many things are more expensive than in many other states, so how can it cost 608 bucks in NC?

Who are you referring to, the OP?
I hope noone belives they will get a windshield from the Insurance Company for free? I am sure there are many insurance companies which will pay for the replacement, but you can bet you are paying for it in your premuim.
