Anyone else pay attention to the Range ?
I've been paying attention to it trying to gauge just how accurate the calculations are. After following it for a few weeks, not sure that I have figured it out. Looks like it does attempt to figure current driving patterns because the range mileage will actually increase at times while you are driving, but I also have experiences like I have had in the past 2 days. The range mileage decreased by 184 miles even though I only drove less than 10 miles the past 2 days, flat roads with no significant accelerations.
I have noticed that even when the range miles drops to 0 and no longer displays a number, it seems that I still tend to have around 1-1.5 gallons in the tank....just doing quick subtraction at the gas pump.
Just some observations, but I think it is good to know those types of characteristics of a vehicle just in case you ever got into a tight spot out on the road.

I can tell you on my 17 GLE 350, when I fill up, the range gives a number in the 575 - 590 mile area. That appears to be a little generous for some reason.

I do, however, pay very accurate attention to the MPG. I only look at the average since RESET. We are getting about 1 less MPG calculated vs. what is on the dash display. The display will show 17.5, and calculated will be 16.5 typically.
I use Fuelly.com to track all of this. It's a great tool, because it allows you to keep all of those records in one easy place, and see how you are doing overall, and compared to other people with the same vehicle...

just checked mine. the range is a little generous. using 24.6 gallons, my reset went to 572. that would be about 23+ mpg. if the reset is based on last all in average, then it should have been around 21+ mpg. if the reset is based on stored driving pattern, the 572 is reasonable as my highway weighting is significant.
stand alone mpg calcs are pretty good though. ron

the "running" range is dynamic and does change while driving. however the "reset" range can't be calculated like that since mine should have then shown less than 400 miles due to stop and go local traffic leading up to a refuel. i still guess it is retaining a longer history for the reset. but, this is not something i feel the need to get tot the bottom of. i'm still working on the nazca lines.

update. just refueled today. lots of highway driving. the reset range was 572. i suspect the range is static. it is highly improbable that 2 separate resets would be 572 based on dynamic mpg. the range calc'd by the time i got home (same trip as before) was 530, which was same calc as last time. ron
