OEM W205 Roof Bike Rack Thoughts
Does anyone have the oem mercedes roof mount bike rack? what are your thoughts? The trailor hitch is more expensive and i dont want to put a hitch on my car. would prefer roof rack and also more versatile for other accessories.
Do you prefer to put bikes on hitch or roof? I would think hitch would protect bikes more from road debris. Any other negatives to roof bike rack? Aerodynamics i guess. We dont have crazy expensive 6k dollar each bikes but they are still nice trek bikes.
appreciate any input.
was planning to get oem basic roof rack part # 205 890 0093 and bike mounts 000 890 02 93 64

Whispbar Racks
Bought a c300 whispbar fit kit / rails back from Aust in my bike box when I was there in the winter. Got the bike carriers in the USA.
Super low pro, screws into roof slots and looks a million bucks. The roof Thule sytem MB uses is way too high and looks ridiculous imo.
The c300 kit is also available in the UK just not NA. Yakima bought Whispbar and discontinued the line in NA.

Apologies for late post Whispbar rack as mentioned... the custom c300/c43 footpads are availaible via the UK or NZ/Aust.
Bike mounts can still be found in the US though
Don't try using the sunroof though!!!

Hi all, I just purchased the roof-mounted bike mount, but my instruction manual is missing. Would anyone be able to scan or take some pictures, please?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I know this is rather old, but are they easy to install and remove? I'm thinking of order a set but plan on only putting them on when I need too. Remove them when I'm done.

Yes I just got some. The only issue I had is one of the anchors in the roof wasn't threaded correctly. I had to figure out the bolt it comes with is an M8x1.25. I used a tap to correct the threads on that one and then I was in business. I am able to take them off and put them on by myself in about 5 minutes after you get used to how it fits and get it adjusted properly.

I know this is old, sorry for bringing this up, but do you have a full side picture of the set up? I just got the parts from the dealer and they were unable to fit it for me, and the front bracket doesn't seem to be fitting the carriers, the screws don't reach the plate to tighten. I really have no idea what I'm doing wrong lol

thank you! I ended up dropping it off at the dealership since I’m waiting for the other bike track to come in anyways, but the screws on the front bracket weren’t long enough to reach the metal plate. I was able to install the carriers easily, and this looked pretty simple too, but the screws just seemed to short.

Quick update, dealer is holding my car overnight because they ran into the same issue, the bike racks don’t fit on the carrier bars. They seem to think they may have made a mistake in ordering one of the two.

Factory base racks go on and off quickly and easily once properly adjusted (which is easy too). However the pano moonroof cannot be opened fully when the racks are installed - be cautious.

The bike racks seemed pretty easy to install, I just don’t think they ordered the right one to be fair.

Alright, final update. Received a call today that the bike rack required longer screws so they were able to get those in and replaced. Bad news is I had noticed the pressure on one tire go down so I asked them to check it and it turns out it's cracked. I'm really not enjoying LA lol.

No, it fits directly into the slots. If you call the service department and give them your VIN, they should be able to tell you if they are compatible with your car or if they have anything else that might work.
