I've been perusing the forum and finally decided to try and find my people. I hope I found the right sub. the C218 and C219 confuse me, but I may have figure it out? C is the CLS Class and 218 and 219 is the difference between the 550 and an AMG? So C218 or W218 (Haven't figured the "W" out yet) are my peeps? I have a 2012 CLS550 4matic. Gosh I love this car...... Thas my girl.....
Hey thank you for responding. I joined this forum a couple of weeks ago and have made a few posts but have had very few responses. I found this forum via Facebook. A couple of users there told me this was a great site for info and discussion. My experience so far has not been all that stellar. My posts seem to get passed over a lot. I thought maybe my questions were discussions that had been previously posted? After searching through the forum all I could find was posts that were several years old. I don't know if people respond to stale posts, by that I mean is, if I reply to a post that is two or three years old will anyone respond or has that thread been archived into some dark hole somewhere? LOL It's all part of learning the forums I suppose. Thank you for the compliment. This is my first luxury car of this sort. I've driven a small Nissan Frontier for the past 14 years. After I got the truck paid for I wanted to get car but I was hung up on no car payments and the truck is still running just fine. So as much as I wanted a car I really wasn't in a rush. After looking around for a few months I came across this girl she's a 2012 with 127K miles on her. The car overall is in great shape. I've enjoyed it thoroughly and I love the purchase. Now that I'm getting familar with the car I wanted to start working on smaller issues. Some I've fixed others I've created by fixing something lol. I'll get it figured out eventually. Thanks again for responding and letting me know my posts are still out there!

Not including the AMG version:
Mercedes Chassis designations are normally 4 characters, 1 letter followed by 3 numeral.
In short, "W" is sedan or wagon, "C" is coupe, "R" is crossover (I think). The 3 numerical characters are generation.
The C219 was produced from 2006 to 2010 and included the CLS350, CLS500 and CLS550.
In 2011, MB released a facelift (inside and out) version, the C218.
In 2019, MB discontinued the 4.7L V8 and went to an inline turbo 6 cylinder.
I believe the 2019 production is when MB finally fit the 9 speed tranny in (from the 7 speed). This was a challenge due to the wheelbase length and the 4Matic drive. But, they did it.
My 2014 CLS550 is probably the nicest car I've ever owned, is effortless to drive and always makes me smile when I "get on it".

2015 for the 9 speed in the RWD versions. I have one. 4MATIC kept the 7 speed.
Actually, I believe my 2017 CLS550 4MATIC may have been the first year the 9GTRONIC was used in the AWD version. Of course, it is the Canadian version, which means no remote telematics of any kind, as opposed to the US version. Kinda like that... and it came with Apple Carplay and Android Auto built-in the NTG 5.5 Comand system!
AFAIK 2018 CLS's were only marketed in Europe. NA still sold them as 2017s. Mine may be just have been a 2018 marketed as a 2017 here - my VIN sequence number is awfully close to known European 2018 CLS VINs. Mine also has an option called 'model year deviation', whatever that means. I have yet to find a 2018 s/n below mine, so it may have been one of the first 2018s deviated to 2017 for NA, or more likely it was one of the last real 2017s to roll out of Stuttgart. Build date is 05/2017. I'm thinking it's the latter.

2018 CLS 550's were sold in the USA. We just took one in trade.
