Performace test
Inspired by the guys over on the R230 forum ... I did my own performance test .
Steven graciously agreed to host the clip :Will be posted later. Sorry!
My Canon Powershot G3 audio file was lost in the process.
0 to 60 mph in just over 6 seconds.
0 to 100 mph in 14 seconds :v .

Being a Canadian car ... you must remember the white large numbers on the outside of the speedometer are Kilometers per Hour.
The Beige smaller numbers on the inside are Miles per Hour.
1 Mile = 1.62 Kilometers
60 mph = 100 Km/hr
100 mph = 162 KM/hr

I am convinced now that most R129 and R230 owners have abosultly no idea of what these cars are capable of.
Based on the lack of responce on what I think is a prety exciting video.
On the R230 forum there is almost no buzz what so ever
on the SL 600 video or the r230 SL 500 video.
Sad .
This very thought might lead me to leaving Forums.

Point taken.
We will have to wait for the old fuddy duddys to get internet savay.
How ever even then they still will not appreciate what fine cars we have the opportunity to experience .
Your Dad does not participate on the Forum. Does he drive any where near the limit of the car?
I know you would / do :v .

My dad never drives hard. I don't think he knows how to. He had a LS400 for about 8 years before he gave that car to me.
He did have a BMW 328i before that though, so there might be hope!

She had no drinks in her. It was a nice stretch of open highway. Very little traffic.
Instead of her howeling at me for driving too fast ... I said, Honey why not press the petal to the floor to feel the acceleration from 70 mph?
Her responce? We have seen a number of stop checks for drinking driving aleady. How would we explian speeding?
Oh well. I guess I'm the aggressive driver. Eventhough she reffers to her Camero and Corvette car experiences 20 + years ago.
Weird .

I am holding out to upgrade to the R230 SL600. From what I have read ... the few extra luxury appointments and the bi-turbo V12 power would be a constant source of entertainment for me.

I went out this afternoon and did about ten 0 to 100 mph runs in about 45 minutes.
The car was hotter than it has ever been before. There was some pretty funkey smells comming off the manifold & exhaust.
I supose this is normal?

[QUOTE=SL60 ///AMG]It´s bad, because too rich mixture will destroy the catalytic converters. here[/QUOTE
I have only smelt that funky smell this one time of heavy driving.
Given your experience ... do you think I need to take corrective measures (i.e. have the fuel injection checked for being too rich) to save the catalitic converters?

Mercedes-Benz C240 and Corvette C5 convertible
Sl73 Amg (r129)
Anyone here ever hear about the old 7.3 liter V12 AMG offered on the R129 (previous model SL) and W140 (S-class 1990-1998)?
From what I know about this engine is that it has roughly 550 hp. I have inquired about this engine on AMG's website, and I was told that for 57,000 Euros, a SL600 (R129) could be modified and built to be blown SL73. And it's currently in the "Pagoni Zonda" italian sports car. I suppose this would be Mercedes' big block engine of recent times.
I would love to see a SL73 (R129) up against a (R230) SL600, SL55 or SL65 AMG car. Though I think the SL65 AMG car will have the last say since it has greater hp and torque.

It has 525hp (386 kW) @ 5550 rpm - and since last week, one of these has a new home in my garage...
